REDBLACKS SIGN CHRIS WILLIAMS

OTTAWA (CP) – The Ottawa Redblacks have signed all-star wide receiver Chris Williams.

The team announced the move in a letter to season ticket holders on Tuesday,

Williams was named the CFL’s most outstanding rookie in 2011 when he had 1,064 receiving yards and six touchdowns with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He added 252 yards and a touchdown on kick returns.

He had his best season in 2012, tying a CFL record by returning five punts for touchdowns.

He finished the season with 16 touchdowns, 1,298 receiving yards and 1,117 punt return yards, and was named an all-star and the CFL’s most outstanding special teams player.

Williams left the Ticats after the 2012 season and signed with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints.

He signed with Chicago in 2013 and was released by the Bears on Dec. 3, 2014.

GREAT MOVE by the REDBLACKS! Not only is he a game-changer, but with the modified rules for punt returns, this is going to be a big year for returns.

If Kent Austin was nicer to Williams when he was leaving Hamilton, likely Chris Williams would have returned there. Unfortunately it was not a parting on good terms.

Although it didn't help the way Williams left either… a bit of an ego on that guy… But he is good, no doubt about that.

By all appearances, RP's Obama lost all track of a toothbrush way back in 87.

Don't think they will find a helmet big enough for his ego. Yes he's good as long as its all about him. Team to him is spelled Chris Williams. More trouble than he's worth.

Couldn't make my Bears and they sucked last year ……and for a few more probably…..but that's another story.

Banks, Williams, Dressler etc.: may be a plan for offenses to gamble more on third down rather than punt and take a chance on giving up a TD. Especially on a third and five or less.

As long as he never went back to Hamilton, I'm happy with his signing.

It's a travesty that he didn't sign with the lowly riders they think that everyone should sign here and play for a losing team here

Wouldn't want him. His ego is geared more for the stamps.

Just so you know, you are not helping the new franchise in Ottawa with those types of remarks. The team will never move forward until they let go of the past (one way to look at it).

People like yourself are 'haters' and really don't care about not only Ottawa, but the CFL as a whole.

Campbell has already stated he will be used on punt and missed FG returns just like in Hamilton.
Toronto took Ownens back a bit last season as well just doing punts and not KO.
Heck Ottawa has six starting rec now not to mention any TE packages. If Williams has a long return he could take the next play off catch his breathe and not really lose any huge amount of offense
