RIDER DRAFT PICKS ARE EXCITED

The Saskatchewan Roughriders chose eight players in Tuesday’s CFL Canadian College Draft and GM Brendan Taman told reporters on Wednesday that they’ll start contract negotiations with the draftees this week.

It shouldn’t be too hard with at least one of them.  Receiver Alex Pierzchalski from the University of Toronto was taken in the second round, 18th overall, and can’t wait to get to Saskatchewan.

Alex Pierzchalski

“To be honest the Saskatchewan Roughriders are a perfect fit for me, in my opinion,” Pierzchalski told CKRM’s Mitchell Blair on Wednesday.  “I’m absolutely thrilled about the chance to play out there and the opportunity I’ve been given with this second round pick.  I’m truly, truly grateful for the opportunity.”

The same goes for the Riders’ first selection in the Draft, defensive end Dylan Ainsworth out of Western.  The 11th overall pick is certainly coming into Saskatchewan with the right attitude.

“It’s amazing,” Ainsworth told CKRM.  “Obviously ‘Grey Cup champions’ sounds great but we’ve gotta do it again.  I think it’s great to come to a team that’s been established the past few years as having a winning tradition.  There’s a lot of pieces in place.”

As for Pierzchalski, the lanky receiver said he’s already drawn comparisons to a current Roughrider star slotback.

“I would like to believe that I compare myself to Chris Getzlaf,” Pierzchalski explained.  “I strive to be the player that he is today.  I would say we have a similar body type and a similar style of play.

Dylan Ainsworth

“Coach Corey Chamblin has told me that we have similar personalities and a similar approach to the game.  I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Chris yet but I’m very excited about that happening and meeting all the players actually.”

Dylan Ainsworth knows the Riders lost veteran non-import defensive linemen Keith Shologan and Zack Evans in the expansion draft in December and there could be a spot waiting for him in Regina.

“It’s an awesome opportunity for me as a player and also to learn from the older, established guys that are there right now and the coaches as well,” Ainsworth continued.  “I’m looking to make my mark on special teams first and foremost and then to get in on the D-line and make it happen from there.”

Both Pierzchalski and Ainsworth will be on 620 CKRM’s SportsCage on Wednesday.

Ainsworth is an excellent pick by the Riders; the youngest in the draft and a future star in the CFL.

Older guys like Chick and Foley are the perfect mentors for him, along with our seasoned coaching staff.

Riders have an energetic core of Canadians on our defense with young guns like Ainsworth, Hurl and Steinhauer.

Pierchalzki certainly isn't shy. I just heard the audio on Scruffy's blog. I hope he can back it up.

Looks like weston is number seven on the chief depth chart which is similar to where fantuz was when he tried down there. Unfortunately for weston and as i said from the beginning he is not going to make it especially at 29. He will be back no later than banjo bowl.

Dressler will do good with the Blue Bombers of Winnipeg upon his return to the CFL, Direct/better highway route from North Dakota for his family to take in a few games. Hmmm, didn't the Roughriders release him, bad mistake in hindsight.

I don't know. If you read that article, there not very high on any of their receivers. Guys with speed but can't catch. Guys that can catch but don't have any speed.

If I have learned anything… Never ever count out Weston..ever…

Unless he gets hurt

Freeman was 6th on the Colt LB chart and he became a starter. Not saying Dresller can duplicate that, but hes got the heart hopefully he gets a fair shot.

Woz, that's not a depth chart, that's one writers opinion. Just like this writer has him starting. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2056325-initial-2014-post-draft-depth-chart-for-kansas-city-chiefs/page/4

The Riders "released" him so he could sign the NFL contract about two weeks before he became a free agent and could sign it then. Its a sign of good faith and belief.

Dressler is a winner – not a bomber.

I realize that it is just a reporters opinion….that is why I said "looks like". The only opinion that counts is the coaches and a real depth chart is not known until the start of the season. We all love weston and hope he does well but the realist in me when i take off my green glasses says he will be back here mid season. Hey just like the reporters that is just my opinion.
