RIDER NOTEBOOK
The 10-4 Saskatchewan Roughriders hit the practice field for Day 1 of their work week on Tuesday, minus Canadian linebacker Cam Judge.
Head coach Craig Dickenson told reporters after practice that the UCLA product suffered a concussion in Saturday’s 21-6 win over Winnipeg. Dickenson said if Judge is ruled out for Friday’s 1st-place showdown at Calgary, he’ll be replaced by fellow non-import LBs Sam Hurl and Micah Teitz on a rotational basis.
Regarding Friday’s game at McMahon Stadium, Dickenson said it has a “playoff” feel, much like last week’s match against Winnipeg, Dickenson quoted former American coach Bobby April who said the season is like an auction.
“As the season goes along, it’s much like an auction,” Dickenson surmised. “As the price goes up, people start dropping out and it gets more intense. That’s what you’re seeing right now. The games are becoming more meaningful and the guys are focusing more than they were earlier in the season because they know what’s at stake.”
B.C. receiver Bryan Burnham, Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Shaq Evans and Lions quarterback Mike Reilly are the CFL’s top performers for Week 17.
Burnham scored a career-high three touchdowns as the Lions clobbered the visiting Toronto Argonauts 55-8 on Saturday.
The native of Moorestown, N.J., leads the league with 1,300 receiving yards this season.
Evans had seven catches for 193 yards as the Roughriders moved into sole possession of first in the West with a 21-6 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Reilly threw a career-high five touchdowns in the win over Toronto. The only CFL quarterback to start every game for his team this season, Reilly leads the CFL in passing yards (3,891).
