The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that international defensive back Tad Kornegay has signed a one-day contract with the team and will subsequently retire as a Roughrider.

An eight year CFL veteran, Kornegay played five consecutive seasons (2007-2011) with the Roughriders after being acquired by the team in June, 2007 after spending two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He also played for the B.C. Lions in 2011 and Calgary Stampeders in 2012.

In his time with the Green and White, Kornegay tallied 174 defensive tackles, 20 special teams tackles, four interceptions and two quarterback sacks in 61 regular season games. He was a member of the 2007 Grey Cup Championship team and played in the 2009 and 2010 games.

For his career, Kornegay played 116 regular season games, six playoff games and four Grey Cup games.

It’s an event not to be missed! The Saskatchewan Roughriders are proud to present their annual “SGI Play it Safe” Day Saturday, August 30th at Mosaic Stadium. Rider players and coaches, Gainer the Gopher, the 620 CKRM Rider Cheer Team, the 620 CKRM Pep Band and the U of R Conservatory Rider Drum Line will all be on hand.

Festivities begin at 9:00AM on the bricks on the west side of Mosaic Stadium. Gates will open at 10:00AM where fans will be invited to make their way into the stands to watch the Roughriders as they hit the field for walk-thru at 10:45AM.

After the conclusion of the walk-thru, the team will be introduced to the crowd and a public autograph session will follow (approximately 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm). The Roughriders are encouraging everyone to come early as a limited amount of autograph cards and giveaways will be available.

Loved Tad as part of our 2007 team. A great and classy move by the Riders.

(And those captcha graphics are very hard to decifer!)

Folks, please be aware that nothing ever starts on time for this event.

And no one ever claps or enthuses: just a lot of grim faced parents shuffling their brood to the exits and God help you if you are in the way.

Just one of those things. Team stuff is usually at least half an hour late.

Get someone to hold a place in line for you.

I have been going to these things for 20 years and it has never deviated.

Parents don't care squat about the team, only that precious little darling gets five items autographed

The weather forecast for the weekend has now changed and it looks certain that the weather will be AWESOME for the Labour Day Classic. The only dark cloud out there is the health of Darian Durant.

Rod, just to add to my comment. The Rider organization always goes out of their way to make this fan-friendly. It's the parents who screw it up. I have never seen one happy, smiling face among them, just grim determination to bolt to the field with their offspring.

Believe me, no one could fault you or the organization. Just warring agendas.

If you are left without a prized autograph, go to a future practice session. Then GM Roy Shivers directly helped my 10 year old relative get an autograph. He called the player over. Fab stuff!

So Skulsky is livid, well too flipping bad. If he had any intel whatsoever, he'd know that Riderville.com posted five sites where the Rider Nation would be attending. I know: I went to the first in Ottawa.

Tell me why I know this stuff back in June and Skulsky doesn't. It's all perfectly public on Riderville.com. Maybe because he doesn't go on the web?

Methinks they talk a lot but know very little.

I just heard on radio that Weston Dressler cleared waivers. I think it changes from 10 days to 1 day approx July 1 every year. I believe he's now a free agent.

I have to chime in. Riders will never be on the field at 10:45. Ha – laugh uproariously.

You will wait until at least 11:15. Then the intros that no one claps for, though they should.

What you have is a sea of sour faced mommas and poppsas who will break your kneecaps if you try to get to the field. Damnit, your kid needs an autograph right now.

I used to love this event.

Now I avoid it. Too many jerkwad parents.

In Saskatchewan having a child entitles the parent to be a bully without consequences. The autograph session generally attracts a more genteel parental bully at least compared to the hockey rink and school. Try disciplining a child at the rink or school. Not only will the bully attack but the bystanders will as well. They are waiting and the kids know how to bait. Why would Dressler want to settle here?
