RIDER TRANSACTIONS
REGINA – Hugh Charles’ latest stay in Saskatchewan was a short one.
The Roughriders released Charles on Wednesday after the international running back made his season debut in Saskatchewan’s 26-13 loss to B.C. in Regina last week. Charles had 86 yards on 13 carries in the game but also committed a key fumble that led to the Lions’ winning field goal.
He was signed by the Roughriders after being released by Edmonton before the start of the regular season.
Charles began his career in Saskatchewan, and heading into this campaign he had 2,084 rushing yards on 388 attempts over seven seasons and 15 touchdowns with the Roughriders and Eskimos. He also had 995 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
The Roughriders have been linked recently to international running back Will Ford, who was released by Winnipeg earlier this week.
Saskatchewan also released linebacker Adrian Moten and defensive lineman Richard Sumlin.

No Eron Riley, haven't we wasted enough time on him?
surprised to not see Riley on here as well. Chaz must still be iffy to come back for the next game.
I agree Eron Riley is a wasted spot for a real receiver
the riders are really making themselves look good when bringing a player in and then releasing him the following week..
so many troubles in riderville things are only going to get worse
Not sure why Charles was even brought in. As for Riley, I see we have 3 posters that assume they can do better. Doubt it though.
When I throw a football, that football knows it has 100% touchdown written all over it.

I've been reading Rod's blog for a long time but rarely bother with the comments section. Too many clueless nuts & @£¥] disturbers on here. Complete waste of time! I thought I would check in on this article to see if there was any reason to change my opinion; nope. Now I just wasted a couple of minutes again!
Keep up the good work Rod. At least your informative articles are worth the read.
Gomer Pyle
To the person on here that defends eron. Are you kidding?!?! He is terrible. I understand he had a nice camp, however so did Terrance Nunn. Fact is he doesn't run good routes and worse can't catch. Clearly he is better than any of us on here. The person who called us out is dopey. Get real. We may not be as good as him but we are better at comments than you are.
Dear Gomer,
You need to keep with the comment section. There is the occasional insight that is worth reading and there is often some hilarity. The "fire the GM" fools, the one Durant hater left in the province, the Richie Hall haters, and a pompous ass who even goes by the name Obama (believe it or not). All good for a laugh.
Goober Pyle
Besides the fumble Charles dropped a TD pass.
Gomer and Goober; You should have been reading the comments last week. Most of the nut cases thought it was a waste of time bringing in Hugh Charles. Turns out those wingnuts were right.
It will be interesting to see what the actual "plan" is with running backs…as for Riley I personally think that he should at least see some time on the bench…but if he redeems himself who am I to judge?

It's very convienant to throw Hugh Charles under the bus, but look a little closer on that play where he dropped it.
There was 19 seconds left in the half, deep in your own end and BC had already used their time-out. If you choose not to take a knee, something bad may happen. Very poor risk management by calling an actual play rather than take a knee and go into the locker room.
My 2 cents… The focus we all have on fumbles by RB is not the issue. Coach C's ego is not the issue. We don't have a RB that can do all the other things, besides just running the ball. If we did DD would not be getting hurried, missing receivers and/or intercepted and/or getting sacked. If anyone truly thought Hugh Charles was a solution, then why wold Edmonton cut him? He was not the solution last time he was here! That being said we have different management, different coaches, different schemes, etc now, so it is due diligence to… Read more »
People need to get off the get rid of Eron Riley….Taj Smith had lots of drops when he first got into action….and my god, remember Getz….dropped more than he caught for a while there…Riley obviously has something or he would not be here, so give the kid a break and let's see what he can do!
Sure Charles fumbled but the real reason he was let go was the missed blocks. He didn't pick up any blitzes in that first half. This really shouldn't of been a surprise to the coaches though seeing he has never been a good blocking back.
I like Hugh Charles, but I will stick with BT and CC on this one. As much as some of you may not believe, Taman and Chamblin know a bit more about football than we do…
Charles could run, but it was obvious on Saturday that he couldn't block and the fumble and dropped pass haunted him. I'll bet Will Ford is in the mix as well as waiting for Sheets to come back.
