RIDERS ACQUIRE PICTON FROM STAMPEDERS
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired the 2015 CFL Draft rights to national offensive lineman Aaron Picton from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for the playing rights of international offensive lineman Randy Richards.
Picton (6’4 – 295) is currently in his fifth CIS season with the University of Regina Rams. The Regina native has played 44 games including 34 starts. He has spent the last two seasons as the team’s starting centre.
The Stampeders had selected Picton in the sixth round (53rd overall).
Good move…. This young man will be a star in the CFL. Just needs time and coaching to develop. Big heart. Strong work . Good attitude !
Trading an Import for a Canadian…. Hmmmmmmm
Like all Rider moves this one will be over analyzed and now Aaron Picton will be destined to be a star until training camp rolls around and he is released or on PR as a local practice body.
Do we really think Huff (the genius) would trade a bona fide Canadian O lineman away for a import that hasn't proven he can even play? It is a paper move for both teams.
Rod – any chance Ballsy can come on your show and explain to us again why Addison Richards would be a better pick than Nic Demski?
Solid! Add to that Canadian OL depth
Trading an American for a homegrown is certainly a reversal on what Taman would do. Jeremy O'Day is trying to distance himself from his old boss and I'm impressed.
DId Huf get some Blizzards in the deal as well…
Probably a sign that Jones is about to sign with the Stamps and given the Stamps depth at G and C it made sense for them to get an american tackle
I will agree that Huff has an excellent track and know how to scout players but this trade is puzzling. Why give up a Canadian lineman with huge potential for an american that had a tendency for taking dumb penalties? Riders definitely won this trade

Huffnagel knows far more than most. It will likely be 4-6 years before this guy amounts to anything, if he ever does at all. It's a feel good move for some but no real value. If Huff thought there was i.e. Jones, this guys wouldn't be going anywhere. Just a footnote move.
Who is saying he has huge potential? If his upside is so big why did he sit until the sixth round – when 'camp bodies' are usually selected?
I am not crapping on the kid, just providing prospective.
I hope he turns out to be a stud. Also, why trade when the Stamps could have just claimed him off the Riders PR? Looks more and more like a throw in to me.
So let me get this straight. Taman suuposedly trades canadians for americans and he is an idiot. Huf does the same thing but basically anyone on here would say that he is a better GM than Taman. Sooo now that ODay has traded an american fir a canadian he must be better than Hufnagel. Hmmmm – that makes no sense.
Reality is that all GMs trade canadians for americans and vice versa if it makes sense for team needs. That criticism of Taman and conversely praise for Tillman is not based in fact and is unfounded.
Who's taman? Seriously? Is he a football player?
Read the Calgary papers and they call the trade a win/win. The Stamps O-line has been injured all year and suffered another season ending one last week. For once Huffer wasn't dealing from strength.
Huge potential? Really?
I've never seen a 6th round pick who was then cut, be described as having huge potential. Funny stuff.
Got the local lineman, now get Addison release Demski and all the Regina fans can say stick it Saskatoon. This way Regina can have the same type of game against Calgary as the Rams do.
Rob Bagg was never drafted and he turned out just fine thank you. The fact is Picton is Canadian and if he develops he becomes a ratio buster.
Bagg was never a great player, he has played in bursts and spurts his whole career. He was never dynamic, just a team contributor plumber doing his job like anyone else.
August 31 st 2015 was the greatest day in Saskatchewan Roughriders history.
