RIDERS ACQUIRE RECEIVER MAURICE PRICE

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired international receiver Maurice Price and a sixth round selection (52nd overall) in the 2016 CFL Draft from the Ottawa Redblacks. In exchange, the Riders have sent their sixth round (45th overall) and seventh round (54th overall) selections to Ottawa.

“We had an opportunity to acquire a veteran receiver with a high level of speed that can add a game breaking element to our team,” noted Riders vice president of football operations, general manager and head coach Chris Jones. “He is an intelligent and versatile player that has succeeded playing different roles in multiple offences.”

Price (6’1 – 205) will be entering his fifth CFL season after signing with Calgary ahead of the 2012 season. Through three years with the Stampeders, Price collected 109 catches for 1,737 yards and 12 touchdowns in 29 regular season games.

Last year, the 30-year-old Price was acquired by the Ottawa Redblacks in a January trade. He went on to start all 18 regular season games, the East Final and Grey Cup at wide receiver.

Through his first four seasons Price has played in three Grey Cups, winning with the Stampeders in 2014.

inb4 "Maurice Price is old and sucks, Jones/Murphy are old/sucks"

Good pickup, Price is a good receiver and still has a lot in the tank.

Mau Price is overpaid and overrated. Has never had big numbers and that is why the Stamps sent him to the eastern RoughRiders. Better get used to a lot of washed up ex-Stamps coming to the Riders.

Ah Hopson and the old boys club will be on here soon to rag on this signing. Then he'll go and ask Jones if he can present the jersey to Price at the introductory news conference.

Not sure I follow why they would want a 30 year old wide receiver with 1 TD last year and only 600+ yards but then I am not a football coach or GM. They must see an upside but frankly I don't. I would rather see them find some tall, fast young receivers and build a team for the future AKA 2017.

Because riders have so many draft pics already.. But hey at least he's a receiver over 5' tall!

Great pick up! Can move around on field and is a deep threat. Will most ideally play short side wideout to stretch field with Roosevelt. Then have Dressler, an improved Canadian slot back and hopefully Bagg on other side. I like it!

Demski continues to grow but isn't forced into a spot he isn't ready for.

Any half wit can post 3-15 without at least signing a nickname.

Good signing for the Riders!

In today's CFL when a trade there are several components. First what did team B give up to get players from Team A. That is the public view, what we do not see is the salary cap implications. I see this as a salary dump by Ottawa. They just re-signed Chris Williams and have other free agents they want to sign. This trade was good for both teams. The Riders got a decent receiver with some size. The REDBLACKS got some late draft picks PLUS some salary cap room. As such it was a win-win for everyone.

It's a new year – Riders (like everyone else) are 0 – 0

The EE fans (or at least one fan who keeps posting here) just can't let it go. Now that's funny.

Hopefully the team gets rid of the ND midget twins, and send Dumski back to the -50 netherlands of portage and main Manitoba.

After 5 years of Taman I was surprised to see that the Riders didn’t give up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for the guy

How is this dude an "international receiver"? Because he lives in the states? Rod, please tell me you're not trying to be fancy with words. I hope this isn't your press release, we're not stupid dude. Stick to facts and don't embellish.

Jones and Murphy got suckered and played big time by Ottawa as Price was going to be released as a salary dump instead Jones paid for him big time and gets stuck with his huge salary for a below average receiver who has never been that good…

Not to smart Jones and Murphy……

Ummm, you did read the article right. We have up a seventh round pick for him. Not sure that equates to paying "big time".
