RIDERS ADD NORWOOD, DENMARK, LEMON AND RELEASE FIVE
Denmark |
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Friday international defensive lineman Eric Norwood and international wide receivers Clarence Denmark and Alec Lemon have signed with the team. As per club policy, details of the contracts were not released.
Norwood (6’3 – 255) joins the Riders after spending the previous three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In 42 regular season games the 27-year-old has collected 123 defensive tackles, 24 quarterback sacks, and nine tackles for loss. He was named an East Division All-Star in 2014.
In ten regular season games last year, Norwood registered 30 defensive tackles, seven quarterback sacks and two fumble recoveries both of which he returned for touchdowns.
Denmark (5’11 – 190) will enter his sixth CFL season after originally signing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in March, 2011. Through five seasons with the Bombers, the 30-year-old Florida native collected 306 receptions for 4,165 yards and 16 touchdowns in 88 career regular season games. He was named a West Division All-Star in 2014 after registering 1,080 receiving yards.
Last season, Denmark had 57 catches for 718 yards and three touchdowns while starting all 18 regular season games.
Lemon (6’2 – 207) joins the Riders after spending two seasons in the NFL. The 24-year-old originally signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in April 2013, then later joined the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in December, 2014.
Before going pro, Lemon had a standout four year career at Syracuse University where he became the school’s all-time leader in receptions. In 47 career collegiate games Lemon totaled 2,596 yards and 18 touchdowns on 201 receptions.
The Riders also announced they released the following players:
· National receiver Alex Carroll
· National running back Brandon Deschamps
· National fullback Carl Fitzgerald
· International defensive lineman Sage Harold
· International running back Stephen Houston
Cut Pierzchalski for Carrol, then cut Carrol.
No wonder Chamblin and Taman are a coulple of sad sacks
I just hope the second Lemon does not wear #88.
This second Lemon appears to have some upside at his size and age 24. Having said this, is there a chance this team could be soured by too many "Lemons". Sorry…just couldn't help it!
Still whining about Pierzchalski? talk about a man crush! Games Played with Saskatchewan (13) in 2015 1 catch for 12 years. 2016 played in 6 games for Ottawa 0 catches for 0 yards. Yeah he's a huge loss.
Tough loss for the oskee wee wee. They needed Norwood badly!
Does this mean Steele is our number 1 RB? GULP!
The riders had the best running game in the leaque last year. Jones and Murphy in their wisdon got rid of all of them – like they have with many top players from the offense. and NO the offense was not a problem last year !!!!!!
Can't wait until the riders cut jones and murphy.
The Riders #1 running back was Jerome Messam. He was in fact traded by the previous regime to Calgary in the latter part of the sad 2015 season. For an Eskimo troll you need to get your facts straight.
I always find it funny how a fan seems to think they know more than a coach who won a grey cup
Remember another HC who won a GC?????
His initials where CC
Ring a bell – ding ding
How did that turn out ????
Now the riders have 2 more rotten apples called jones and murphy
Don't worry I know that I will never convince the posters on here
Its called judgement and you have none and neither do the people who hired jones and murphy but their intention where in the right place
except they were blinded by the sexy choice.
" Can't wait until the Riders cut Jones and Murphy".
Wow are you pathetic. Yeah, let's go back to the Riders of old where losing seasons were the norm and even a chance at the playoffs was lauded as a celebration. Take your idiotic old boys club mentality and shove it straight up your ass. Seriously, if you don't like wining then get lost. What a loser.
Denmark is 30
Jones said the riders needed to get younger
but I quess that was before players wouldn't sign for him
The riders ground game was just fine without Messam even though he is a great player
Yes get your fact straight.
To you ignorant trolls who do not like Jones and Murphy maybe its time to let them do the job they were hired to do. If the results are not good they will be gone as per your desires. Meanwhile your postings are annoying and mean nothing to Rider Fans. I sincerely wish your team had a blog so we could go on it and crap allover your teams coaches and management.
"Cut Pierzchalski for Carrol, then cut Carrol.
No wonder Chamblin and Taman are a coulple of sad sacks"
Actually, this is absolutely inaccurate. Pierzchalski turned down a practice roster spot as he felt he was too good to be there. So he went to Ottawa and sat on their practice roster.
Carrol accepted a PR offer and thus stayed with the team.
To all the evil empire posters here, tough luck, we will not be cutting or releasing Jones and Murphy so quit wishing and dreaming
Pierzchalski has done DICK ALL in Ottawa, give it a rest already!
Why is anyone making judgments about Jones and Murphy when they haven't shown that they are winners or losers here yet. To all the nay sayers, who would be a better hire?
So the Bombers get an all star receiver in Dressler
and the Riders get
a 3rd string castoff in Denmark
Jones and Murphy are just the smartest there is
Everything about this comment is incorrect. The Bombers signed a free agent in Weston. The Riders signed a free agent in Denmark. Both were 1st string starting receivers for their respective teams. One receiver was signed for $160K which is too much. Yet it's 38 percent less than he (Dressler) would take in an attempt to negotiate by Chris's Jones. Denmark on the other hand that was an Eastern All Star the same year that Dressler was a Western All Star took half of what Dressler is getting. So the Riders get to sign a great Defensive End for the… Read more »
