RIDERS ADD RECEIVER AND RUNNING BACK

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that import receiver Chaz Schilens and import running back Jermaine Thomas have signed with the team. As per club policy financial details of the contracts were not released.

Schilens (6’4 – 215) is a veteran of six NFL seasons after originally being selected by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round (226th overall) in the 2008 Draft. The 28-year-old spent four years with the Raiders before joining the New York Jets for the 2012 season and spending time with the Detroit Lions in 2013. In 59 career games he totaled 100 catches for 1,191 yards and nine touchdowns.

Before joining the NFL, Schilens played four seasons at San Diego State University where he registered 103 career collegiate receptions for 1,603 yards and seven touchdowns.

Thomas (5’11 – 196) joins the Riders after spending four seasons at Florida State University. The 24-year-old finished his collegiate career ranked ninth all-time in FSU rushing touchdowns with 19 and twelfth all-time in rushing yards with 2,083. The Jacksonville, Florida native also registered six career 100-yard rushing games including a 186-yard game in 2009.

In Taman and Oday we trust. As the infamous Roy Shivers once said, Import RB's and LB's are dime a dozen. Everyone take a pill, we have a great nucleus of players here. the number of players (particularly second stringers) leaving, is an indication of the depth of the team and the overall talent. This speaks well of Taman and Oday, haveing their recruits picked off right and left. The finest form of flattery so to speak.

Looked a Thomas on Utube. Seems to be shifty and relatively fast. He comes from a solid football school in Florida State.
Schilens a tall (6'4")WR who has pro experience. Should battle Taj for a starting spot.
Can't wait for T Camp.

They'll try to play Schilens inside.

Bagg, Getz, Schilens, Simon and Smith as a 5 man unit would look nice. Swain, Anthony and Etienne as back-ups. Eron Riley could still be in the mix.

Matt Brown and Cliff Smith will replace Sanders and even be used in the Dressler spot at times for sweeps and swing-passes.

Cortez is already creating his "evil" plan!

The riders also have the cheapest lease in the CFL. On the back of Regina residents both operating Taylor Field and now any shortfall on the loan and over-runs on the new stadium.

as a community owned entity thry qualify for the tax break. would you pay more taxes than necessary simply because you could afford to? worst stadium in the league = cheapest lease.

In the last 2 weeks Riders have signed 2 receivers with NFL pedegrees capable of replacing Dressler. A rookie Quarterback from a high level college, looking like he can replace Drew Willy and a Running back from the top Football College in the USA….all I see is 7 comments from Fans but when a player who is not even a starter signs and leaves to another CFL team, fans are going balistic leaving all these grumbling comments. The Grey Cup Rebuild is on and we will be fine.
