RIDERS ADD WILL FORD
The Saskatchewan Roughriders today announced international running back Will Ford has joined the teams practice roster.
Ford (5’11 – 195) is a three year CFL veteran after originally entering the league in 2012 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Last season the South Carolina State product was named an East Division All-Star after running for 594 yards and two touchdowns on 113 carries while adding seven receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown in 13 regular season games with the Bombers. The 27-year-old also had 45 kickoff returns for 1,047 yards and two touchdowns including a 100 yard long return. He was twice named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week following performances in week 11 and 15.
Okay I will now ask the obvious,
"Why not give Keith Toston a try?"
After training camp it was between two guys: Keith Toston and Anthony Allen. Since then Allen has been in a couple of games and we have also tried, and now released, Hugh Charles.
We also brought in Jerome Messam, and now are signing Ford out of Winnipeg. What gives?
All this time, one of the best performers of the pre-season was Keith Toston.
I will end with a George Reed quote about Toston, "There's something special about that guy."
What gives CC?
Kel in Victoria
I would like to know this as well. He must have really PO'd the coaches to be riding the pine for this long cause he sure stood out in training camp.
Also, off topic but I heard that the Pats separately offered the HC job to two guys and both declined. What's going on down there? And three months ago Pats fans were making fun of the Blades, now Stoon has first class coaching as does Moose Jaw! That's gotta hurt.
Gunderson's Yorkton
Why was Will Ford cut from Winnipeg? Is there more to that story than we are hearing?
RC
Yeh, what's going on with best running back in camp???
Training camp = job interview
showing up late on the first practice after making the team = showing up late to your first day on the job
It takes time to re-establish any trust. The guy spent some time with the Jaguars in the NFL. He should know what's to be expected as a professional football player.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Toston and Allen split carries this week.
So, if this late for practice thing is right, why haven't the media mentioned it? It would sure clear some air.
We'll discuss it on the Cage today. It's not what you think. Innocent.
Had to sign Messam as a replacement for Hughes. the coaches were fairly clear from the start of the season that the Tailback position wasnt totally settled. Here we are. This reminds me of when the Riders traded for Cates in 2007, same type of scenario.
I thought I was told that toston couldn't read the playbook if that's the case whys he here only in riderville im guessing
maybe drawing it in crayon will help if thats the case
Taman must of upped the signing bonus, hence the Will Ford presence in gooberville, oops, riderville.
Re: Toston not playing … the "simple answer is Coaches' Decision" as said here on this site couple of days ago. Get it???!!
No, I don't get it.
People want to see Toston…Get it???!!
The Rock
Hey smarta$$. The people know it's a 'coaches decision' What they're asking is why.
Rick Foley turned into Gump, Forrest Gump.
To the guy that made a reply comment and then followed it up by saying: "Get it???!!
I just want you to get one thing… You're an idiot!
Hope Ford doesn't fumble on his first carry or it will be bench time for him. You fumble the ball , drop a pass or are late for practice it's lights out on this team lately.
I think what the Riders may be doing is trying to find a cheaper alternative to a returning Kory Sheets if he gets cut.So therefore bringing in different people for a look. Kory if he was to be cut and returned here would command a big salary, and IMO the Riders may not want to go this way. So if you can find someone that can play close to the level that Kory did for us but quite a bit cheaper, you go for it.

Taman will sign any retread out of Winnipeg.
Gotta have alot of RB's kicking around. chamblin has set the standard: Fumble and be benched or cut.
I've got a buddy who's well known for his self-deprecating humour. His take on the Billy Backflip experiment was "It was lucky Charles dropped that TD pass AND fumbled a few plays later, or else we'd still have him, and he's not the answer."
Pure luck
Well, that wasn't self deprecating but at least you got to use some big words.
I thought I read at one time after Sheets got in trouble with the law that the Riders would never have him back on that account.
