RIDERS BACK TO WORK

The 7-2 Roughriders held an open practice on Day 1 of their practice week on Wednesday.

Absent were punter Josh Bartel and long-snapper Levi Steinhauer who were injured in the Labour Day Classic. Kicker Chris Milo performed punts along with back-up kicker Justin Palardy and slotback Brett Swain. Linebackers Brian Peters and Brandon Whitehouse long-snapped but Special Teams Coach Bob Dyce was clear that neither Bartel nor Steinhauer have been ruled out for Sunday’s Banjo Bowl at Winnipeg.

Quarterback Darian Durant and head coach Corey Chamblin discussed the team’s 7-2 start and compared it to the 8-1 first half record last year. A Banjo Bowl loss in 2013 touched off a four-game slide and both Durant and Chamblin said the team will be careful not to let that happen again. Corey pointed out injuries were a big part of last year’s rough patch.

However the two disagreed on the decibel level of Winnipeg’s Investors Group Field. Chamblin said it’s the noisiest venue in the country while Durant said, no, Mosaic Stadium is still the loudest stadium in Canada.

We’ll have plenty more on today’s SportsCage on 620 CKRM.

IGF by far the loudest..Not because of the fans….because of the roof design..funnels all the noise back on the field not out the top like at MS

Noisiest fans = Sask
Noisiest Stadium = Winnipeg

I agree with the third poster. The stadium canopy is designed for that very purpose. Our new stadium will have that feature as well, at which point we won't need microphones to be heard in Winnipeg..

Hopefully we see Palardy or Swain kicking in Winnipeg this weekend. Neither can be as bad as Milo or Bartel.

Hopefully we get lucky here, and Bartel's injury gives us a chance to really see what we've got.

FYI Bartel is in fact one of the best punters in the CFL, and as an added bonus is Canadian. We are lucky to have him and hope he gets healthy real soon.
I went to practice today and Milo was doing quite well punting (Swain not so much).

I think Bomber fans may be a little bit louder but it makes sense. Think about it, if you don't have any teeth in your mouth then then none of the sound gets reflected back into your mouth…zzzziiiinnnngggg

I live just outside of Winnipeg and go to quite a few Bomber games (in my rider gear of course) and they are loud but not consistently. The fans amp it up for their games against us; no question.

Im hoping that HC Corey Chamblin has taken more of an interest with Bob Dyce and his special teams system this year. To give up the field position we did last game was not good. Not to mention 2 games in a row that a was returned punt for a TD. The Blocked punt was Bartels fault. Its one thing to roll out but you better give yourself enough time to punt. The blocking on our blocked punt was great either. From last years stellar special teams to this year. Almost feels like we changed Special Teams Coaches this past… Read more »
