RIDERS’ HENOC MUAMBA NAMED 2017 GORD BARWELL AWARD WINNER

OTTAWA – Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Henoc Muamba was named the 2017 recipient of the prestigious Gord Barwell Award at the annual Athletes In Action Grey Cup Breakfast at Grey Cup Festivities in Ottawa on Saturday morning.

The award is named after the legendary receiver, the late Gord Barwell of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who helped establish the ministry of Athletes in Action throughout the CFL.

AIA continues to provide a spiritual chaplain to each CFL team. The Gord Barwell award is presented to a CFL player each year who exhibits exemplary Christian conduct and leadership on and off the field.

The 28-year old Muamba is a Congolese-Canadian football player for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He was selected first overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2011 CFL Draft, becoming the first player from St. Francis Xavier University to be chosen first overall in the draft. He played CIS football with the St. Francis Xavier X-Men.

Muamba has also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys and Montreal Alouettes.

In 2016 Muamba signed a free agent deal with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and led the Green & White in tackles in 2017.
