RIDERS HOLD MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JOE MCKNIGHT

A small memorial service for Saskatchewan Roughriders running back Joe McKnight was held Monday morning at Mosaic Stadium as staff and players had a chance to say farewell.

Team chaplain Jared Lacoste led the approximately 30 minute memorial service discussing his brief time with McKnight and sharing a conversation about God he had with him before a team bible study session this year.

McKnight had not been a Rider for long as he joined the practice roster in late September, but he was someone who had a huge impact on the team.

Speaking on behalf of the club, fullback Spencer Moore said it was important as an organization to hold Monday’s event to show the McKnight family they are supporting them as well as they grieve his loss,

The 28 year old McKnight was shot December 1 at an intersection in New Orleans in what police say was a “road rage” incident.

54 year old Ronald Gasser has been charged with manslaughter.

Funeral services were held in New Orleans for McKnight on Monday as well.

The Riders were represented by a handful of players along with head coach and general manager Chris Jones and assistant vice-president of football operations John Murphy.
