Saskatchewan Roughriders Head Coach & GM Chris Jones addressed the accusation by Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo-Levi Mitchell that the Riders are playing “fast and loose” with CFL rules and the amount of “non-counting” players the Riders have at Mosaic Stadium on a daily basis.
“We are able by CFL rules to have tryout people at practice every single day,” Jones said Wednesday. “And we’ve brought a lot of people in because we’re never going to quit searching for talent. The day that you quit searching for good players – I mean you oughta know – because of how many injuries we’ve had. We’ve had more injuries than anybody in the CFL. It’s no secret.
”If they wanna cry about how many people we have on the 6-game (Injured List), all those are legitimate injuries. We’ve gotta make sure we know who the next person is that’s gonna step in and play because that next game is gonna come. They don’t change the schedule because our kicker gets hurt Day 3, or Xavier Fulton gets hurt Day 2. The games are coming and so that’s what they pay me to do; so that I know who the next person is to step in and play.”
Jones seemed more concerned about the fact Bo-Levi Mitchell would be able to make such a careless accusation on Twitter.
“It’s up to Huff and Dave how they allow their players to talk on social media,” Jones smirked. “We’re just here to improve our football team.”
Meanwhile after Mitchell’s accusation on Tuesday, the Stamps pivot has been hit with a barrage of hate from Rider fans which prompted him to dedicate Saturday’s “win” to Rider fans. Calgary and Saskatchewan will meet up Saturday afternoon at Mosaic Stadium.
“That’s the first I heard about that but he can talk all he wants. That’s fine. That’s fine,” snorted Riders defensive end Justin Capicciotti. “We’ll see him on the field. Who cares what a quarterback from Calgary has to say about our organization? That’s as far as I’m concerned. I’ll see him on Saturday. If that gives our guys extra fuel, then I feel bad for him.”

should the league look look at Calgary circumventing the salary cap?Awfuly suspicious he's being paid only 320,000, while every other starter is making 500,000.
Jones is a rookie GM that has been manhandled by other GM's in the league with trades. He is trying to find talent the same way a drowning man swims, trying to do everything all at once. He will figure it out in time but he is fighting to keep his head above water as a GM. As a coach his creditials are unquestioned but as a GM he has a great deal to prove
Give me a break your defence sucks and Mitchell is going to prove this to you once again…another 30 plus game against the riders to go with every other 30 plus game against them this year…you need more then fuel. Going to pay attention to Mitchell now while Messam runs right through you again and again. Not a Calgary fan, just telling you truth.
Oh so Mitchell can't choose what he gets paid…hahahaha. How about taking the grey cup you won with going over the salary cap the one year smart one.
Why are the Riders now under the microscope. I would imagine that most other teams conduct themselves in a similar fashion. In regards to Bo-Levi, how would he know what the Riders are doing. He must like stirring the pot. With the next game in Saskatchewan he better be prepared for a 'warm' welcome.
Mitchell may be a great quarterback, but he is a Stampeder and therefore a bum! Calgary Sucks! (and so does their team). He needs to shut his pie hole and stick to doing what he is paid to do which is toss the pigskin!

Hate to say it, but with the amount of poor off-season signings, early retirements and the rotating door of players in and out the roster on a weekly basis I hope the Riders have an RBC Westjet card for all the travel points and starting to wonder if Adidas had to dedicate a full sewing crew for Rider Game jerseys to accommodate for all the moves.

Riders are the league’s richest team, they are evidently taking advantage of their cash surplus to overstock their roster. Not that it’s helping — the Riders have a league-worst 1-5 record.
