RIDERS RE-SIGN BRACKENRIDGE

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announce international safety Tyron Brackenridge has signed an extension to remain with the team. As per club policy, details of the contract were not released.

Brackenridge (6’ – 190) will remain with the Green and White for his fifth CFL season after originally signing with the team as a free agent in October, 2011. He also re-signed with the Riders as a free agent in February, 2013.

Last season, the California native collected 64 defensive tackles, ten special teams tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks and one blocked field goal in starting all 18 regular season games. He was named a West Division and CFL All-Star for the second time in his career and second consecutive season.

For his career, the 30-year-old Brackenridge has recorded 196 defensive tackles, 16 special teams tackles, nine interceptions and two quarterback sacks in 59 career regular season games. He won his first Grey Cup in 2013 as a member of the Riders.

Brackenridge was eligible to become a free agent on February 10th.

With the loss of Ricky Foley this is perhaps the most important signing. Our team lost a great leader in Ricky and while I am happy with the trade because it fills a void, at times our team has not played up to their potential and a motivational leader can help get things on track. I think Tyron can be that guy, he gives you everything on the field.

The Riders defense is shaping up to be unreal! With Chick/George/Walker already on the line the easiest spot on the roster to fill will be the DE. Brackenridge, Brown, Harris will move around the field blitzing from all areas. It is going to be awesome.

An interesting thought … we all love Dressler, myself very much included, but each off season I see other teams receivers sign AND PLAY in the NFL. Inman, Matthews, now Chiles.

Are we biased because we see him all the time? Is it a bad thing if he goes to free agency and riders sign SJ Green instead to change the dynamic?

Had to resign our defensive leader for sure. Was very nervous we might not have got him. Great safety and also a good linebacker and a big time leader.

Riders did ok without Dresslar the first half of last season. I want him to sign here but if he doesn't and they do get green not sure it would be that much of a difference. Heenan and going after Jones might be better money spent as protecting Durant is key after what happened last year.

Green would be better we need a guy that can go up and get the ball. I like dressler to but i think he was better when defences didnt know how good he was and just focused on his size. He does have good speed though.

Why always just one year at a time?

It's no wonder Brendon Tamon has the most free agents of all CFL teams…

Tamon is a smart cookie. He knows how to negotiate and how to work things with the salary cap. The fact that he and Chamblin work so well together is what enables the Riders to continue to adjust their roster year to year, and seek ways to improve.

Never underestimate the value of Dressler. It would suck big time if he signed with any other CFL time. I'd hate to play against him.

We did need a linebacker but it's too bad Taman is incapable of finding one on his own. Foley wanted to stay.

Rider fans are smarter than the GM. Most wanted Peters gone because he wasn't good enough and it looks like he may … albeit to the NFL. Kilgore wasn't good enough so lets gas him at age of 23 and first pro season. Let's hang on to a 33-year-old def end when the strongest aspect of our team is the d line. Add an impact LB and hate it because he is "too competitive".

How long before Taman trades him now…too soon? Good signing glad to see #41 back for another year.

Things may not work out in TO. Ricky may be released as expectations are high for him. Coming off a career year is hard. How many armchair GMs would sign a 33 year old DE?

If you're spelling names "Dresslar" and "Tamon" you might as well quit wasting your time typing as your opinion means squat

If Taman and Chamblin are always seeking ways to improve then I would call last year a FAIL. If DE are a dime a dozen and it seems a lot of posters think they are. Then why is it when Chick wasn't here we were complaining then. When Stevie Baggs left we couldn't find anyone to replace him? Before Foley got here we didn't have a DE that commanded the attention he did. DE's ya they fall off trees, Shomari Williams, Odell Willis how did they work out? Guys beach about the age of Foley but had no problem when… Read more »

Tillman is gone, so get over it already. Tillman did his best when Chick and Baggs left town to shore up the D-line.

It took Taman a year as GM and the chance the hire his own coach (Chamblin), but in 2013 it all came together. Have faith in the Riders, they are doing their best this off season to improve form their spot as third best last year.

The "FAIL" last year may have had a tad bit to do with losing our starting QB and team leader to injury during the Banjo Bowl. Who knows what would have happened had Durant not had such a freak injury, but the Riders may have ended up better than third best in 2014 – we will never know. I fully support the work by Taman, Chamblin, O'Day et al in pulling together a new edition of the Riders for 2015. We have a smart, experienced management group working to better the team. Lets look forward to the free agency period… Read more »

Brendan Taman is the most polarizing GM in the league. Half of the Rider Nation has zero faith in him. The other half blindly endorse him like Chretien's backbenchers.
