RIDERS RE-SIGN KICKER CRAPIGNA

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today national kicker Tyler Crapigna has signed an extension to remain with the team through 2019. As per team policy, financial details of the contract were not released.

Crapigna was acquired by the Riders in October, 2015 from the Calgary Stampeders after he was originally selected in the 5th round (40th overall) of the 2014 CFL Draft.
Last season, the 24-year-old connected on 36 of 42 field goal attempts (85.7%) with a 53-yard long and 22 of 25 convert attempts (88.0%) while adding 51 kickoffs for 3,110 yards. He was named the Riders Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and Most Outstanding Canadian.
Prior to entering the CFL, Crapigna spent five seasons at McMaster University where he became the Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s all-time leader in field goals. He completed his collegiate career with 84 field goals, six singles and 140 extra points for a total of 398 points, while also amassing 9,489 punting yards.

This new regime is terrible. Big headed group, we all had our favorite players. Now it's absolutely destroyed. Who are we really cheering for now? There is no sense of connection anymore. Where there used to be the guys that were the riders and had that connection with the province. Now they continuously get cut, jones to busy trying to hog the fame.

Only thing to look forward to is those big bowls of nachos. It certainly isn't the team if they can't even negotiate a deal with someone who holds a legacy.

You're supposed to be cheering for the Riders. I think you were inebriated when you wrote that.

Pissed fan, I'm sure you were pissed when Narco, Jurasin, Cates and other "Favorites" were let go. Unless your 14 years old you will get over it.

Hey pissed fan, We cheer for the Riders, not individual players. Players come and go, the Rider name stays. Many players move because they wanr to play closer to home or more money. Remember Fantuz who said he would never leave? Where is his jersey now?

Here we go . Bombers dumped Glenn today so Durant will be gone and Glenn will be the new starter in Regina. And the way Jones is operating this team that would not come as a surprise.

To pissed fan: I can associate with you. Perhaps the other bloggers are too young to have been fans in those times. When Jurasin was cut, there were several other players that we associated with. When Narco was gone, we still had other fan favorites to cheer for. Never, in forty years of supporting the Riders has a team been so decimated that the only fan favorite left was the QB, Darian Durant and a few O linemen. Given the uncertainty surrounding Labatte and Best and Durant, that gets us down to Clarky. And Clarky isn't Jones' body type so… Read more »

Do not be surprised that Riders do work a trade with Montreal for DD. As indicated before it seems from DD'S stand point he feels he is elite & wants to play 10 more years, he is not interested in giving up playing time to Tudor a young QB.He is NOT ELITE !!!!!!!!!!How about Kevin Glenn, who would be good insurance & more than willing to Tudor young guys.We will never be able to groom a young QB with DD around. Also Riders have to get a VERY GOOD player from Montreal who is prepared to come to Sask. In fact… Read more »

Rumour is Durant for Adams. We increased our offer to sign and trade Durant. I would like a different qb then Adams but I know we new another qb other then Durant. Maybe a Adams for Franklin deal.

How do you think you are going to get something for a free agent? Give your fricken head a shake

There is no logic in these statements. First you say Durant is not an elite QB but on the other hand, you say that in a trade, he is worth two "very good" players from Montreal. What? Only an elite QB is worth two "very good" players. Not to mention the fact that Durant becomes a free agent on February 14. No team is giving anything for him unless he signs a contract. Have you ever heard of a good player that did not want to be out on the field, be it QB or DB or O lineman? If you… Read more »

How do you know that none of the young QBs the Riders have are not talented enough to be a starter? Are you an expert in QB mechanics, footwork and reading a defence? Do you know how to tell the difference between man and zone coverage? No, so stay in your lane. Do you even remember how Darian Durant himself became the starter in Regina? Riders traded Kerry Joseph to Toronto after the 2007 season because he wanted too much money. The Riders went into the 2008 season with Steve Jyles, Marcus Crandell, Micheal Bishop and some guy most of… Read more »

I certainly do remember how Doubles started with the Riders. He signed with the team in May of 2006. For most of that year, he played with the practice squad. In 2007, the year the Riders won the Grey Cup, Durant again rode the pine. In 2008, he didn't appear as a starter until late in the season. In 2009, he became the starter for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and took them to the Grey Cup. "Some guy most of us had never heard of" was already in his third year here in 2008. I knew his name in 2008 and… Read more »

So a QB who has been traded/released isn't starter quality? Good thing you were not there to tell the Riders that in 2006 when they traded Corey Holmes to Hamilton so they could put Durant on the negotiation list. I guess Hamilton didn't think Durant was a quality starter so they let him go. Three years typically to be an elite CFL QB? Mitchell, Collaros, Jennings and Ray all started and won as rookies or in their second year. So have dozens of other QBs before them. Perhaps one of the current group could start after they learned from Durant?… Read more »
