RIDERS SIGN ED GAINEY

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced free agent international defensive back Ed Gainey has signed with the team. As per club policy, details of the contract were not released.
Gainey (5’11 – 195) will join the Riders for his fifth CFL season. The 25-year-old Appalachian State product spent his first two seasons with the Montreal Alouettes after signing with the team ahead of the 2012 season. He then signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a free agent in July, 2014.
Through 43 career regular season games, Gainey has collected 69 defensive tackles, 25 special teams tackles and two interceptions. He has also scooped three fumble returns, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Gainey is a high end DB and heaven knows we need a couple, but I'm a little underwhelmed at out signings to date. We have yet to land a Canadian D-lineman and we still haven't found a for-sure MLB. I'm a little surprised that we are not in the JC Sherrit hunt. It appears Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto are and with a need there, is strange.
