The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today international quarterback Brett Smith has signed with the team. As per club policy, details of the contract were not released.

Smith (6’3 – 206) joins the Riders after spending three seasons at the University of Wyoming (2011-2013). Through his collegiate career the Oregon native completed 751 of 1,212 passes (62.0%) for 8,834 yards and a school record 76 touchdowns, while adding 378 rush attempts for 1,531 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year after the 2011 season.

The 22-year-old signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in May, 2014 after leaving school early to pursue professional opportunities. He then signed with the Toronto Argonauts in July where he spent six weeks on the teams practice roster.

I like the fact that this prospect is only 22. If he can develop into a Bo Levi type talent, then he could be the one to replace Durant when he decides to retire after the 2020 season or so.

He was a green 21 year old out of college with the Argos, who were deep in talent under Ricky Ray. I would not read too much into the short stay in Toronto.

He certainly has nice size and might just feel more comfortable in Sask – having played in Wyoming.

Size don't mean crap…give me a Russel Wilson Tracy Ham Doug Flutie sized QB anyday in the CFL…we need a QB that can scramble if need be…that is huge in the CFL.

Me thinks the Bombers are more than happy with RB Paris Cotton who lit it up for the last 4 games of the regular season. He looked very impressive
