RIDERS SIGN QB AND RECEIVER

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that import quarterback Seth Doege and import receiver Brett Swain have signed with the team. As per club policy financial details of the contracts were not released.

Doege (6’1 – 197) joins the Riders following a standout career at Texas Tech University. The 25-year-old completed his collegiate career with a school record 69.0% completion rate while ranking second all-time in school passing yards with 8,646 and touchdown passes with 69. He finished his 2012 senior season second in NCAA touchdown passes with 39 and passing yards with 4,215, while being named the Meineke Car Care Bowl Most Valuable Player.

Last year, Doege attended training camp with the Atlanta Falcons after originally signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in April, 2013. He spent the season with the Falcons practice squad.

Swain (6’0 – 200) is a veteran of six NFL seasons after originally being selected in the seventh round (217th overall) by the Green Bay Packers during the 2008 Draft. The California native spent three years with Green Bay – playing in the Packers 2010 Super Bowl XLV win – before joining the San Francisco 49ers for 2011 and signing with the Seattle Seahawks prior to the 2013 season. In 27 career regular season games he totaled eight receptions for 87 yards.

The 28-year-old played four seasons at San Diego State University before entering the NFL, totaling 133 career collegiate receptions for 1,893 yards.

So we have seen all these salaries leave the team and we have barely had a sniff from any one wanting to be here. Either we are gonna be way under the cap or we were way over last year, or we are gonna wait to throw big bucks at some NFL cuts…..

Rod already told us how far over the cap the Riders were. Pay attention. I think management has a pretty good idea of what they are doing.

RP employed by CKRM, not the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club, financial Information exclusive only to management and anything speculative from the press Is heresy until the organization chooses to release audited statement to the public as per mandated policy.

Great comments by Kelly on yesterday's Sportscage! Let's remember who we HAVE on the team. It's not like the 90's when if we lost a couple of key players, we're back to square 1! We have a GREAT nucleus of players. Let's be excited for those we have here and for who some of the new faces may turn ut to be!!

An interesting read out of the BC Lions camp…. http://www.cfl.ca/article/buono-were-a-long-way-from-done

Many GREAT quotes by Buono that should be listened to by those fearing the big exodus!

Brendan Taman has been pursuing some free agents. I believe RB FORD was one of them. The previous 2 years we signed more free agents than anyone else in the league as SK seemed to be the team to come too. This year it's a universal opposite. I sure would like to know why?? This has been the largest exodus of free agents since the Al Ford days. At that time SK had no money and no fan support and as a Player was the last CFL team you wanted to play on. That didnt seem to be the case… Read more »

Couple things to think about is how many years did Montreal bring in and unheard of rb that did just fine. Also, we need 2014 cap space more likely when not if Sheets & Dress get cut. Wish them the best but Rider brass would be in trouble if they could not afford them…..

The fans really need to shut their mouths, take the back seat, and let Brendan Taman continue to do the driving. He led us to a championship last season. He deserves our respect right now. The fact that people are bashing him and second guessing him is absurdly ignorant and rude!

Hey Morgan… Big words! Especially when I didnt read one bashing in these comments. I read several people asking questions. As a fan I believe its a healthy thing to ask question. Ive even asked Brendan to come in here and fill us in. So maybe it's you that should SHUT UP!
So we won our 4th Grey Cup. We are still so far behind every other team in the league. A healthy fan base shows interest by asking questions. Only stupid people try to shut them up!

Lol 3RD and 1. Relax bro. It's February or March now I guess. Other than Sheets and Dressler going to the NFL, we lost one free agent I cared about. (Butler) It happens.

Just read an interesting article on the Seahawks and it turns out they are in a very similar situation as the Riders are in. They just released a couple of prominent players that they admit are salary cap casualties. Likely more to come. They say they have to make room for serious bids on some key players. And the familiar part is that they are trying hard to keep their nucleus together. It's a small world.
