RIDERS SIGN THREE
Abankwah |
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced national running back Melvin Abankwah, international wide receiver Michael Campbell, and international defensive back Nick Taylor have all signed with the team. As per club policy, terms of the contracts were not released.
Abankwah (5’9 – 190) was originally selected by the Riders in the 6th round (50th overall) of the 2015 CFL Draft after playing four seasons at Saint Mary’s University. In 2014, Abankwah totaled 534 yards and two touchdowns on 112 carries in seven CIS conference games.
Last season, the 24-year-old Abankwah attended Riders training camp playing two preseason games.
Campbell (6’2 – 205) joins the Green and White after spending parts of four seasons in the NFL. Originally signing with the New York Jets in July, 2011 as an undrafted free agent Campbell signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2012 before returning to the Jets for 2013 playing four regular season games.
Campbell was selected by the Riders in December’s CFL waiver draft. The 26-year-old spent most of last season on the Ottawa Redblacks practice roster.
Taylor (5’10 – 190) signs with the Riders after spending time with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings. The 27-year-old previously signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in March, 2012 before briefly joining the Jets in January, 2014.
Taylor was originally signed to the Riders practice roster last October after spending the 2015 season with the Arena Football League’s Orlando Predators.
Oskee?
Once again all 3 are part of the hard work that O'Day and Bob Dyce put in previously.
But of course the haters will say it is jones and murphy.
That might be true, but it is also irrelevant. Not to hate on Dyce, who did a commendable job as interm HC, or O'Day but the Riders are a much stronger organization with the current management set up. What possible set up could have been better? If Dyce is so great, why was he not hired as the HC in Edmonton or Ottawa? O'Day will likely make a fine GM some day (maybe not in Regina), but he wasn't ready now. Lapolice? Again, if he is so great, why is he the OC in Winnipeg and not the HC in… Read more »

So we should have just stuck with the status quo from the end of last season and given those two full reign.
You must be that Neil guy from Southey who enjoys 3-18 seasons.
Let the stupidity continue with the know nothing posters;
Abankwah was "cut loose" by the Riders last and played some semi-pr football. He was asked back by Jones.
Campbell was plucked off of Ottawa's practice roster.
What did Dyce or O'Day have to do with anything.
Would you morons just get off this blog. Your a disgrace with utter stupidity!
It's the old boys club again attacking the new regime. They won't quit. Even if they win the Cup this year they won't. Not until one of their own is in control that they'll shut up.
Is this referring to Jim Hopson? I thought he retired?
Was he forced out by the Board of Directors?
Who exactly is the "old boys club" and what are their objectives?
A wide receiver named Campbell seems a perfect fit for the Riders. Hopefully he wears jersey #31. Now if only we can find a running back with the last name Reed.
"Old boys club" defn – any regular meeting of more than two people who are of the male gender and over the age of 40.
Great great great signings. Can't wait until the club drops the bomb and releases some very old players (Dressier/Chick/Bagg/Getzlaf etc) with their out of date hefty long term contracts.
Big height increase for new DB Taylor. 5'10" instead of 5'6". I like it !!!Maybe a few 6'3" DB's would be a tad better? Well lets wait until training camp is over and see what the Riders end up with. Go Rider
Is Abankwah clean now ?
Off course hes clean. He was clean last year in camp. Shouldve never been cut. Why yah thing jones resigned him. He showed great skill against edmonton. In pre season. No brainer
