RIDERS TO ADD ANOTHER BACK?

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released international running back Will Ford.

Ford spent the last two seasons in Winnipeg and was a CFL East Division all-star last year. He rushed for 594 yards and three touchdowns on 113 attempts last season and added 1,047 yards and two touchdowns on kick returns.

Ford became expendable with the emergence of Nic Grigsby, who leads the CFL with three rushing touchdowns and is second with 218 yards through three games.

Running back Paris Cotton is also back in the lineup after suffering a knee injury in a pre-season game. He returned six kicks for 157 yards in Winnipeg’s 34-33 win in Montreal on Friday.

**Both the Winnipeg Sun’s Kirk Penton and Sportsnet’s Arash Madani are reporting Ford will be signing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders this week.

Rider Assistant GM Jeremy O’Day told the SportsCage on Monday that while they’ve made contact with Ford’s agent, no deal has been completed yet.

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers say it’s time to set aside their last-minute win over the Montreal Alouettes last Friday and get ready for the Edmonton Eskimos, who also sport a 3-0 CFL record.

Coach Mike O’Shea says he expects their most physical game yet when they meet Thursday in Winnipeg

The Bombers moved back to the CFL West this season and Edmonton is the first western team they’ve played.

Quarterback Drew Willy says it’s an important game and they’re treating it as such.

Meanwhile, they could be without receiver Aaron Kelly, who didn’t practice Monday and was getting checked out by physicians after reporting knee issues again.

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be without their starting quarterback when they take on the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium on Friday.

Ticats head coach Kent Austin said after practice that Zach Collaros will miss Hamilton’s next game due to injury. He also said there is no timeline for Collaros’ return, and a decision on who will start versus Calgary will be made later in the week.

Austin says he is hopeful that receiver Andy Fantuz, who suffered a concussion in the pre-season, will be able to play Friday.

Collaros was injured during the second quarter of the Ticats’ Week 2 loss in Edmonton. The 25-year-old was flattened by a helmet hit to the chin by Eskimos defensive lineman Odell Willis and was taken out of the game. He did not return.

Austin would not say whether the injury was a concussion.

“It’s a combination,” Austin said. “He had a hit to the head and his back’s hurting as well. So, I’m careful not to give exact medical opinions on everything, but he’ll be out this week for sure.”

Collaros has completed 23 of his 41 passes for 212 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions through two games this season.

The Tiger-Cats also announced Sunday that they had signed international quarterback Jacory Harris and international offensive lineman Jeremy Lewis.

Hamilton is 0-2 this season.

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts are expected to learn Tuesday if receiver Chad Owens will be able to play this week.

Owens had an MRI on his foot Monday after being injured in the club’s 34-15 home loss to Calgary on Saturday.

Owens did not practise when the club reconvened Monday as his foot was in a walking boot.

Argos head coach Scott Milanovich told reporters he’ll await the results of the MRI before deciding on Owens’ status.

The Argos (1-2) are in Ottawa (0-2) on Friday night in the expansion Redblacks’ home opener.

What was that old saying about American running backs?

Something to do with there being so many of them out there and they are so replaceable and thats why they don't pay the great ones the big bucks.

I guess we are showing that anyone can be a running back.

That philosophy only applicable to Mr.Roy Shivers who knows player talent when he sees it. He has the good fortune of being a former player himself with connections, plus being a great football genius guru.

Except for Kory Sheets; 2000 a year yard rushers are a rare breed.

Winnipeg Sun reports"Ford wasn’t on the unemployment line for long, as a CFL source said he agreed to terms with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Monday afternoon. The Riders have been unable to find a running back who can hold on to the ball, and Ford will get a chance to be their No. 1 back."

Looks like a battle shaping up at RB. May the best back win.

A perfect combo at running back will be the speedster Ford and the big full-back Messam. With this duo and with the return of The Great Getzy and Chaz Shillings, our offense should be back on track.

It is pretty tough times in Riderville when you are picking off the scrap heap of the '13 bombers…Call me crazy but the much vaunted Oline that can no long run block or pass protect may be an issue. Wonder if the bomber have one of those to give away too…

It really makes me wonder if Taman knows anyone down south. Oh sure he found Sheets two years ago but that was at a tryout camp and Sheets just wandered in wanting a chance. No such luck with this year's mid winter holiday

We have enough RBs! We need some receivers who can catch a ball!

Not sure we fans have enough information to dump on different players/coaches etc. I remember Coach Ronnie (yeh am old) at QB lunches (they were great) would play game film and explain what happened on each play. It was an eye opener! Mistakes on assignments (especially rookies on O line) made the wrong player look bad. Fans screamed for cuts and firings. Ronnie was fired but mistake prone rookies Aldag and Poley were not cut. Sometimes fans are wrong, or at least impatient.

Ronnie wasn't fired. He quit. But saying he was fired works good with the made up story that he was run out of town doesn't it?
Fabricated stories are so much better than actual facts, don't you think?

Sometimes we need patience. Remember Fantuz benched for dropsies? (like Riley) Thigpen for fumbles? Bowman and Richardson terrible receivers? Stay cool folks. There may be some 'nuggets' out there that we don't see … yet. (I know … enough already)

Having high expectations is one thing but unrealistic is another.Fans expect the team to play well and perform at a high level. Sometimes it takes a while before the new players gel into their new team. Until that happens mistakes are made. Lets see if the team shows progression over the next month.
Adding two quality RB's who are vets insure the team is trying to improve.Perhaps it is time for fans to chill a bit.

There are still problems this won't fix. We don't a have a single linebacker in the group. They ran wild against us. Not a single DB in the bunch. Unwilling or unable to to play man to man. Unwilling to hit. No take-aways. No punishment. Big problems on both sides of the ball.

I'm not saying we don't need to be better on defence. But with only 28 points scored in the last two games with turnovers galore and us horribly losing on time of possession points squarely to the under performing offence. Fix that and we may be able to compete! Oh yeah!! Penalties too!! Yuck!!

Sure hope Ford doesn't drop the ball or he will be sitting on his ass if Chamblin continues to run the football team in that manner.

Will Ford be attending practice by himself on Taylor Field?
