RIDERS TO ADD JOSEPH
Saskatchewan Roughriders GM Brendan Taman told reporters Tuesday that Joseph is poised to rejoin the club sometime this week.
“That probably could happen here pretty quick,” he said.
Joseph was with Saskatchewan in 2006-’07 and led the club to a Grey Cup victory in 2007, when he was also named the CFL’s outstanding player. He went on to play for both the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos before retiring last January after 11 seasons in the league.
Joseph, 41, was a training camp coaching intern with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints this season.
“Anytime you deal with coaches, especially, you want experience,” Taman said. “You want to maintain the chance to win games and if you don’t have an experienced quarterback you’re a little bit in trouble when it comes to that.
“I think (Joseph) does have experience and I think he can bring a lot of good stuff to our locker-room.”
Taman said Tino Sunseri will likely start at quarterback Monday when the Riders visit the Montreal Alouettes.
Regular starter Darian Durant underwent surgery last month to repair a torn tendon in his right elbow. The expectation was that he’d be out for the rest of the regular season but Taman said the club remains hopeful it will have Durant in the lineup for its regular-season finale Nov. 8 against the Edmonton Eskimos.
“I think if everything goes well, there’s a chance for that, for sure,” Taman said. “But injuries are tough to predict sometimes.
“You just never know what can happen but I’m still fairly optimistic and still planning that he will be ready for that game.”
Durant was hurt in Saskatchewan’s 30-24 road win over Winnipeg on Sept. 7. Since then, the Riders (9-5) have dropped two straight and three of their last four games but remain tied for second place in the West Division with Edmonton.
Saskatchewan has scored 69 points in its last four contests but 35 came in an overtime win over Ottawa. The Riders lost 24-0 to Edmonton on Sept. 26, their first shutout loss since 2006.
Sunseri was 16 of 19 passing for 289 yards and a touchdown in Saskatchewan’s 31-24 loss to Calgary last weekend. Taman expressed confidence Sunseri has the ability to play well enough to be Saskatchewan’s starter during Durant’s absence, but made it clear Joseph will get a shot.
“Kerry isn’t coming in here just to be a guy that stands there and holds a clipboard,” Taman said. “He’s here for a reason so he’ll get thrown into the mix and see how he does.”
Joseph, who made his CFL debut with Ottawa in 2003, spent the last three years with the Eskimos before retiring.
Interesting move. I think I'd rather see KJ here as a QB coach.

Please be as QB coach not the QB!

The Apocalypse….
Goodbye Seth?
One question: Why? I love the guy and thank him for his 2007 contributions but bringing him in can't be for any other reason than to have an additional veteran presence on the sidelines. We saw what Kerry did the last two years with Edmonton which was nothing. If he plays, how is that going to help the young guys develop?
I was always a fan of his.
I also fully expect Kerry Joseph's first name to be changed to, "41 year old".
It needed to be done. keep in mind to Darian Durant. K.J in between you and Kent Austion is only 1 of 4 men to QB this team to a championship.
The reaction fans have to Kerry coming back….well if it's negative, similar to Kent Austin, and Ronnie before him, then just know what your future has in store.
Y'er Welcome

As what?
What? How about Warren Moon? Dieter Brock maybe?
Hey maybe this will work, I don't know, but there's a lot of good quarterbacks on the couch that are under 40, this problem should have been solved in the preseason.
They are basically adding another RB who can throw a bit. Terrible accuracy, not fancy, but tough as nails. I can see them winning games with under 150 yds passing for sure. If Seth or Tino at least gave the opposition a "threat" of running, It would open up a lot. This is a no lose situation if he can still run a bit and he is in decent shape. .Polkabill from the Peg
I guess Reggie Slack was busy?

Joseph will eventually dress as a back-up behind Tino and Seth.
If either of them gets hurt, we don't have an insurance policy.
Smart move with minimal risk.
This will not hinder Tino's development, Kerry is not the starter….relax!
As long as he can manage the game still…we only have one QB right now…

I guess management has been blowing smoke up our arses that DD was coming back. Makes no sense in signing this washed-up has-been to a contract. There are only four games left. If DD was coming back before the playoffs like management had us believe, three more games of Tino and Seth wouldn't kill us. Especially since they've all but clinched a playoff birth.
What a gongshow move. KJ BLEW in Edmonton last he played.

Tough crowd. I like the move. Im assuming he'll be insurance if Tino poops the bed again and DD cant go by playoffs. Why the hell would you airlift a coach in with 4 games left. Come on guys.

Good move, bring Kerry in as insurance for Tino, better him as a backup than Seth. After the last game hate to destroy a young Quarterbacks confidence. Kerry keeps in better shape than some of the younger players. Maybe after the season he could come back as a QB coach. As much as D D might be back before the season ends, good possibility he won't.
How about Keith Price???
A four-year starter in the Pac 12 with the Washington Huskies, and has already been in the camp with the Riders for the past 3 weeks???
Keith Price certainly not the experience of Joseph, but lets get real here… By the time joseph understand the Cortez system, it will almost be time for Durant to come back. Is this really necessary???

Tamam needs his head examined, go with the youth it only helps the future of the riders. Joesph couldn't backup any other team in the league so he retired, it's bishop all over again.
Thought Durant was coming back lol #smokescreen
I hope as a QB coach only, otherwise who is next, maybe Casey Printers gets a shot? Yikes!
Nothing but an old running back. Ok as coach but not QB anymore. Stay with Tino.
