RIDERS TO HONOUR 1966 GREY CUP CHAMPS ON JULY 16

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced details of the 1966 Grey Cup Championship reunion to be held July 16th, when the Riders take on the visiting B.C. Lions at Mosaic Stadium.

Throughout this year’s Farewell Season, the Riders will be celebrating the moments and memories that have made Mosaic Stadium special. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Grey Cup Championship, and to commemorate the occasion the Football Club will be welcoming back 17 members of the 1966 team, with a day full of events including a morning autograph session and half time ceremony to honour the players that brought the franchise and province its first Grey Cup championship.

“This is an historic year for our franchise as we say goodbye to Mosaic Stadium, and as part of this year-long celebration we are thrilled to welcome back some of the heroes who brought us our first Grey Cup in 1966,” said Riders President and CEO Craig Reynolds. “This will be a very special day as we salute one of the all-time great Roughrider teams and some of the legends of the game.”

Fans will have an opportunity to meet the 1966 team members at an autograph session to be held at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame from 12 – 1:30pm on Saturday, July 16th.  From there, the former players will make their way to Mosaic Stadium where several members will be signing autographs at the pre-game GoodLife Fan Fest, prior to the 5:00pm kickoff.  At halftime the ’66 team will take the field in celebration of their achievements and the history that was made here 50 years ago.

In addition to the players, the Grey Cup trophy will be making a visit to Mosaic Stadium and will also be available for photos at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame from 12 – 1:30pm.

In keeping with the 1960’s theme, the Goodlife Fitness Pre-Game Fan Fest will come alive with music from the 60’s beginning 2pm. Fans are encouraged to come early and enjoy the evening.
