SOME STARTERS TO SIT, TOSTON TO DEBUT

Keith Toston

The Roughriders held Day 1 of their practice week with a closed workout at Mosaic Stadium on Wednesday.

Afterwards head coach Corey Chamblin revealed they’ll leave a handful of starters at home for Friday’s game at Calgary.

The list includes SB/PR Weston Dressler, OG Chris Best, RB Anthony Allen and QB Darian Durant.

In the case of Durant, Chamblin said his top pivot practiced lightly on Wednesday and threw some short passes however the right elbow injured he suffered on September 7 hasn’t come around to the point that he can be activated for Friday’s game.

Chamblin also announced rookie RB Keith Toston will make his pro debut Friday night against the Stampeders.

Kickoff on Friday is 7:30 pm on TSN and the 620 CKRM Rider Radio Network.

CALGARY – Calgary coach John Hufnagel says star running back Jon Cornish is unlikely to play when the Stampeders host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday.

In a post on the Stampeders’ official Twitter account, Hufnagel says Cornish will likely miss the game “due to general soreness.”

The Stampeders (13-2) have already clinched first place in the West Division and will want to have a healthy Cornish in the post-season.

Cornish, from New Westminster, B.C., leads the league in rushing with 977 yards despite missing seven games this season to injury.

Cornish missed six contests in July and August with concussion-like symptoms and didn’t play against Montreal in September with what the tam called “nagging injuries.”

Riders are resting starters? I guess they're happy with the fourth place cross over. At least we get to see Tosotn play, finally!!

Finally toston gets to play. He looked like he would be #1 during camp. I also guess riders are happy to be the crossover team. Only player that deserves a rest is dressler

Like the idea, rest them this week, bye next week and let them come back in the last week to prepare for a playoff run.

It’s better than resting them in the last week of play and then having them playing in the 1st playoff game without playing for 3 weeks

Cornish out for next game – I predict that he will be out of football in 1 to 2 years.

2 years max and he will be out.

This is a good move and I agree wholeheartedly. However what this means is I have zero interest in the game Friday night now. November 16 can't come fast enough when it comes to the Riders!

While I agree with the move, I don't think we have a prayer going through the East. We've been awful out there this year and if we're lucky to eek past hamilton or toronto, we will never knock off Montreal.

I though Dressler got dinged on that return. Glad to see Toston activated, I liked him in the pre-season.

No Cordog just means Walter will get 100 yards against our invisible linebackers.

Looks like the Tostonites are finally getting some satisfaction.

We haven't reached our potential all year but that doesn't mean we can't improve. We haven't faired well against the east for sure but we have played good games against the west. Even young Tino almost got us a win against Calgary and other than the special teams blunder we played better than Edmonton and beat BC. I'm not ready to count us out yet. It's a long shot but not impossible. And if we were to make it to the Cup we would be in great form to play any of the east teams. I still bleed green.

George Reed commented that their is something special about Toston back in training camp… Finally we get to see what this guy is all about:

RP said, "Chamblin announced rookie RB Keith Toston will make his pro debut Friday night against the Stampeders."

I love the offensive line and I think that Picard at centre is solid… However one critique of Picard, especially noticable the last few games, for some reason approximately half of all his snaps seem to barely make it to the QB. It seems the QB loses some time just waiting for the ball to make it to his hands. Hopefully this has been addressed by Cortez or one of the 5 QB's who are seeing this happen.

Come on Picard – Snap that ball with some zip man!!!

I agree with the Picard comment, the ball just seems to float back to the QB.

Yup thats what we want a laser snap…. Holee people have really run out of things to complain about. As for toston he did look good in preseason ….but he has not played cause he had trouble blocking. See if he has learned anything.

You were all suckered with the "Durant will be ready by the end of the season", now they are letting you down softly. So gullible!

Cornish's ass is to sore for him to run. That's from eating all of those Cornish Flakes.

Is Allen still banged up? I like the idea of seeing Toston but if KJ is in for us the rest of the way out it would be nice to see him develop some chemistry with Allen on handoffs, etc. In my mind you don't want the first in game hand-off between those two to be in a playoff game.

On a side note I see that Aaron Rogers' brother is getting his first start for the BC Lions…I've got to admit I had no idea he was even on a CFL roster.
