ROCKETS 5 PATS 4 OT

REGINA — Pats fans were treated to a wildly entertaining game in the Brandt Centre Saturday night but in the end, left disappointed. Despite never trailing all game long, Regina lost on the final shot on goal in the contest.

The Pats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Colby Williams and Adam Brooks scored 14 seconds apart in the opening six minutes. For Williams, a Regina product, it was his first WHL goal and it came in his sophomore season. Mitch Wheaton scored for the Rockets before the period was out cutting Regina’s lead to 2-1 after 20.

The Rockets, the Dub’s #1 team, found their legs in the middle frame when they outshot the homeside 22-6. Ryan Olsen tied the match 2-2 before Colby Williams put the Pats up 3-2 at the 6:48 mark with his second goal of the game. The teams traded goals the rest of the way, with Regina’s Dyson Stevenson scoring, and it was 4-4 after 40.

Kelowna outshot the Pats 10-9 in the third but the teams blanked the frame and went to overtime. Each squad had three shots on goal in the extra session but it was former Regina Pat Myles Bell who ended it, beating Regina goalie Dawson MacAuley in the top right corner of the net at 3:07 of overtime.

Kelowna outshot the Pats 44-32 and each team was 2/4 on the powerplay. The attendance was 3782.

Regina (18-13-3) now goes on the road for three straight before Christmas beginning Sunday evening at 7 pm in Medicine Hat on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).

Sorry I couldn't have been there but watched it on WHL Live down here in Minneapolis. It was a great game even though Rockets pulled it out in the end. Pats should be proud to hold their own against the talented Kelowna Team. Once we get Morgan and Kyle back from injury this Pats Team will be even more of a treat to watch in the 2nd half. Play well tomorrow guys…will tune in after watching the Eagles crush the Vikings at the Dome!

Actually this was a game that could have been won. Kelowna were not at their best and could have been beat. Still the same things that always hurt us all year continue to hurt us. On defence even with Burroughs back our D doesn't match up. They are still superior to us even missing their best d-man. They are big, strong and move the puck well. Their goaltending is strong. Our forwards match pretty well with the exception of our third line. They were on for two even strength goals in the second period. Kelowna killed us when they were… Read more »

Yes, but how can you tell how someone is playing against another team maybe you're not giving the pats enough credit for how they played.

There may have been 3782 tickets sold but from the little I watched at work it appeared the attendance was nowhere near that. Not sure why since they are playing entertaining hockey. Maybe people have lost interest over the years of futility and a new fan group has to get inspired by this team.

…Coach McGuigan's post game comments say all that needs to be said…. …the building was morgue like and is most nights. Fans come to see the home team win and when they don't a little more dissatisfaction sets in… …when the Pats blew a big lead to PA on a Friday night there were a reported 3900 fans. The next night against MJ there were 3300 or darn close to a 20% drop. Plain and simple people are demanding a contender….. …it was somewhat shocking to see the PA Raiders in 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. While they have… Read more »

I'll put in my two cents on the attendance. Look at the ice and see the mess of sponsors. The arena is a mess of corporate sponsors. Now it may just be me but I can only name maybe one or two players on this team. I'm not a super fan but maybe I could be. What I'm getting at is this team has no face and no identity. I can remember the Josh Holdens, Derek Morris', Barrett Jackmens and Garth Murray's. The point is why are these players not out there. There's obviously the sponsorship why don't these corporations… Read more »

With regard to attendance, I attended almost every home game and a few road games over the last 4 years or so but haven't been to any this year so far. I bought a flex pack,so I will be at some games after Christmas but there are the reasons my interest has waned. First there were a lot of boring games last year, and it's hard to make the trek in bad weather. The losing/boring thing seems to be resolved, but it takes time to win the credibility. Going to games last year felt like a job. Second the area… Read more »
