RPS GREY CUP REPORT

The Regina Police Service reports that there were very few incidents directly related to Grey Cup from November 20-25, in spite of the many events and festivities associated to the 101st Grey Cup Festival.  In the planning phase of the Police Operations Plan, officers were asked to cross-reference any calls related to Grey Cup festivities (primarily determined by location) under a common file number.  The results provided by Regina Police Service records indicate 26 Grey-Cup-related police-reported incidents from November 20-25, 2013.  Note: Not every incident resulted in an arrest. 1 Mischief Under $5,000There were also an additional 20 calls for service related to Grey Cup Festival, in the same five and a half day period, which did not generate reports.  These types of dispatched calls would include: parade escort, injured person (minor injury), assist citizen and intoxicated person (where the individual was released into the care of another responsible person or transportation arranged).  So, from Nov. 20-25, the Regina Police Service responded to 46 calls for service that were Grey-Cup related; of those, 26 generated police reports.
 
It is difficult to capture the numerous police/public interactions that occurred in the past 5 and ½ days.  Police were very accessible to the public and some minor complaints were reported directly to police officers at the many Festival venues.  A number of minor concerns and complaints would have been dealt with by officers at the scene with no further action required.
 
The Regina Police Service thanks the residents of Regina and visitors to our City for participating in Grey Cup Festivities in a responsible and friendly manner.  The Regina Police Service also thanks its many partners in planning, and providing public safety and security, for the 101st Grey Cup.  They are: the Grey Cup Festival Volunteer Safety and Security Committee representatives, Emergency Medical Services (EMS); Regina Fire & Protective Services (RFPS); City of Regina Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity Manager; City Services; professional and volunteer security representatives; Grey Cup Festival event planners; and, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
