RYAN OPTS OUT, MONCRIEF SIGNS WITH RAMS

Veteran punter Jon Ryan became the latest CFL player to opt out of his contract for 2020 on Tuesday.

The Regina product was due to become a free agent in February anyway, but taking advantage of the one-week window to opt out gives him the opportunity to pursue NFL opportunities.

The UofR Rams grad broke into the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2004, where he spent two seasons. He then spent 13 seasons in the NFL (2006-2018) with the Packers, Seahawks and Bills, winning Super Bowl XLVIII with Seattle.

Ryan signed a 1-year deal with his hometown Roughriders in 2019, and was named a West Division All-Star. He renewed his deal in the off-season for one more year.

Meanwhile the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams signed linebacker Derrick Moncrief on Tuesday. The Oklahoma State product spent three seasons with Saskatchewan (2017-2019) before signing with the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders this winter. He was waived a few months later.
