SASK MMA ROUND-UP
Brad Katona |
Two of the best bantamweight prospects in Canada represent the same training centre and both will have a shot to take another step up the ladder at Prestige FC 2.
Both Kyle Oliveira and Brad Katona will be out to improve their stock on Saturday, March 12th in Regina, Saskatchewan, as they each face stiff competition on the stacked card that will emanate from the George Reed Auditorium inside The Orr Centre and live on The Fight Network and Access 7.
Oliveira gets a huge opportunity to make a statement as he faces rising star Aiemann Zahabi. A victory over the Tristar Gym product would be considered a massive upset by many but Oliveira doesn’t care if he’s considered an underdog or not. He’s certainly more than capable of knocking Zahabi off. Oliveira has two knockouts to his credit plus his unanimous decision win over Corey Gower at MFC 41 was a back-and-forth slugfest.
Oliveira has struggled to find opponents over the last year, but no one has had more potential foes fall by the wayside than teammate Katona.
Kyle Oliveira |
For Prestige FC 2, the organization put the word out that they were trying to find Katona matchup. Every single ranked opponent turned down the fight out of fear over Katona’s potent striking ability. Finally, Josh Rich stepped up and is prepared to give Katona as much as he can handle. Katona’s two wins were both impressive outings. He bested jiu-jitsu talent Mike Hay with a wicked body shot at an MFC event, and then used his punches to eventually force Myles Anderson to give up his neck and tap out to a guillotine choke at Prestige FC 1.
The bantamweight division is certainly on stage at Prestige FC 2. Not only are there the Oliveira-Zahabi and Katona-Rich matchups, but hometown fan favorite Sean Quinn would certainly like to get his name in the title mix should he get past Chris Day.
Just like the middleweight division, the bantamweights are going to sort out their ranks at Prestige FC 2 with aspirations of a title shot awaiting the winners.
Prestige FC 2: Queen City Coronation presented by SUBWAY® Restaurants and 104.9 The Wolf is very nearly sold out.
