SASKATOON – Jeff Cornwall scored the winner on a breakaway with just 12 seconds remaining in regulaton time as the Saskatchewan Rush won their second straight National Lacrosse League title, beating the Buffalo Bandits 11-10 on Saturday at SaskTel Centre to sweep the best-of-three final series.
The Rush, playing their first season in Saskatchewan after winning the title last year while based in Edmonton, opened the series last week with an 11-9 victory in Buffalo.
Mark Matthews and Robert Church led the Rush with two goals and four assists each, while Curtis Knight had two goals and three assists. Zack Greer added two goals and an assist and Ben McIntosh had two goals to round out the offence.
Dhane Smith scored twice and added four helpers for the Bandits, who also got a pair of goals from Ryan Benesch. Kevin Brownell, Mark Steenhuis, Nick Weiss, Andrew Watt, Alexander-Kedoh Hill and Anthony Malcolm had the others.
Aaron Bold stopped 47-of-57 shots for the win as Anthony Cosmos made 43 saves in a losing cause.

What a game, what an atmosphere, way to make Saskatchewan proud RUSH!!!!
Rush are the Champions. SASKATOON CHAMPIONS THAT IS !.
I think the Rush would be the first to say they're a Saskatchewan team.
Congrats on the repeat! Tough feat in any league.
What…the band Rush was playing in toon and I missed it…damn it.
Grey Cup 2013 was incredible, but the atmosphere tonight was something I have never felt before.
Lacross = Lawn bowling = who cares?
They will gone as quick as they transplanted.
I was there. My hearing is finally back to normal. I still have a headache, but I don't care.
That building has never been that loud. That goal, when everyone was already standing… The anticipation of a breakaway… Just amazing. What a game, what an atmosphere, and what a ride.
I sure hope they play an exhibition game in Regina next season so people can see what the NLL is about.
Those who cannot support this team because they have an Saskatoon vs Regina complex need to get over themselves.
They are a Saskatchewan team just like the Riders are. Congratulations!
Thing I don't like is the captain lives and works in Ontario and only flies to Saskatoon for gameday. Not pro enough to be full-time job I guess.
NLL players make around $20k per season, I doubt any are from Saskatoon or Saskatchewan for that matter. Just the way it is, owners spend more money on flights and hotels than salaries.
Regina Fans are LOSERS of the YEAR.
Please stud muffin, please.
