On a beautiful night for football at Griffith’s stadium in Saskatoon, the Regina RIOT went down to defeat at the hands of the three-time WWCFL champion Saskatoon Valkyries.
It did not go well for the RIOT from the start when the Valkyries took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown 78 yards. They scored four more times in the second quarter to take a demanding lead into the locker room at half time, and capped of their scoring with touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.
The RIOT were able to get on the scoreboard with an outstanding run by all-star running back Carmen Agar, who took it in from 17 yards out, late in the fourth quarter.
Bright spots for the Regina RIOT were their two all-star running backs: Carmen Agar, who had 20 carries for 112 yards and one touchdown, and Chantel Morrison who carried the ball 18 times for 92 yards. Leading Rusher for the Valkyries was Julie David who the RIOT defense kept to 57 yards on 12 carries.
On defense, all-star Adrienne Zuck lead the way with 5 tackles, along with standout rookie Daniel “Peety” Petersen who also had five tackles and one pass knock down. Shelby Moran, fourth-year RIOT star, had four tackles and one fumble recovery.
After the weekend the Valkyries are now 2-0 and the RIOT drop to 1-1 The Regina RIOT will next travel to Winnipeg to play the Manitoba Fearless at Investors Group Field 11:00 AM Sunday May 25th.
The rematch for the RIOT and the Valkyries will be the RIOT’s first ever home night game, Saturday June 7th at Mosaic Stadium with a 7:30 PM Kickoff.
