CALGARY – Starting quarterback Dru Brown threw a pair of touchdowns to Rasheed Bailey and Brendan O’Leary-Orange to lead the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to a 36-13 win over the Calgary Stampeders on Friday.

Backup quarterback Dakota Prukop added a one-yard touchdown run with 1:38 remaining in the game to round out the scoring.

Sergio Castillo kicked five field goals for the Blue Bombers (14-4).

Winnipeg had already clinched a bye through the first round of the CFL playoffs and will host either the B.C. Lions (12-6) or the Stampeders (6-12) on Nov. 11 in the Western Final.

Cole Tucker caught his first CFL touchdown pass from Calgary quarterback Jake Maier, while Rene Paredes kicked a pair of field goals for the Stamps.

Having already clinched a playoff berth, the Stamps will travel to Vancouver next weekend to face the Lions in the West Division semifinal.

 

 

WORLD SERIES

Adolis Garcia hit an opposite-field homer in the 11th inning, after Corey Seager’s tying two-run blast in the ninth, as the Texas Rangers opened the World Series with a 6-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Garcia has homered in five consecutive games this post-season. Game 2 is Saturday night.

NBA

Alex Caruso nailed a three-pointer in the closing seconds of overtime, and the Chicago Bulls beat the Toronto Raptors 104-103. Caruso hit the winner off a feed from Zach LaVine after blocking Pascal Siakam. He finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds and two steals. DeMar DeRozan scored 33 points. Toronto went on a 14-2 run in the fourth to go up by 19. But the Bulls pulled even, with DeRozan leading a huge push near the end of regulation.

NHL

Quinn Hughes scored twice and Thatcher Demko stopped 22 shots for the shutout as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-0 to win their third consecutive game. J-T Miller, Phil Di Giuseppe and Ilya Mikheyev also had goals. The shutout was the fourth of Demko’s career.

Phillipp Kurashev scored on a power play in overtime, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat Vegas 4-3 to hand the Golden Knights their first loss of the season. It was the first time Vegas allowed a power-play goal at home this season. Connor Bedard extended his goal-scoring streak to three games, and finished with one point on the night.

 

 

WHL

PATS 5 BLADES 3

REGINA – Corban Almen scored twice as the Pats defeated Saskatoon before 2,993 in the Brandt Centre.

Aaron Krestanowich, Tanner Howe and Jaxsin Vaughan rounded out the attack for Regina (8-5-1).

Brandon Lisowsky, Hudson Kibblewhite and Easton Armstrong all scored for the Blades (8-4-0).

Elsewhere in the DUB:

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Nathan Behm scored 2:20 into overtime as the Kamloops Blazers edged the Tri-City Americans 3-2 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Connor Levis and Dylan Sydor had regulation-time goals for Kamloops (2-9-2), while goaltender Dylan Ernst stopped 23 shots.

WILD 4 SILVERTIPS 3

EVERETT, Wash. – Kenta Isogai put away the winner 36 seconds into overtime as Wenatchee slipped past the Silvertips.

Luka Shcherbyna, Conor Geekie and Miles Cooper had the other goals for the Wild (7-6-1).

Austin Roest, Teague Patton and Ben Hemmerling supplied the offence for Everett (6-5-1).

HITMEN 4 HURRICANES 3

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Reese Hamilton had the overtime winner as Calgary topped the Hurricanes.

Oliver Tulk scored twice in regulation for the Hitmen (4-7-2) and Carter MacAdams added a single.

Kooper Gizowski, Elias Knoester and Brayden Edwards were the scorers for Lethbridge (8-5-2).

ROYALS 3 GIANTS 2

LANGLEY, B.C. – Dawson Pasternak scored in the game-winning goal at 13:07 in the third period as Victoria held off Vancouver.

Robin Sapousek and Ben Riche also scored for the Royals (7-6-0).

Ty Halaburda and Colton Langkow had goals for the Giants (3-6-1).

TIGERS 7 OIL KINGS 4

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. – Tyler MacKenzie had a hat trick as the Tigers downed Edmonton.

Gavin McKenna and Cayden Lindstrom had two goals apiece for Medicine Hat (8-4-1).

Skyler Bruce, Blake Fiddler, Adam Jecho and Rilen Kovacevic replied for the Oil Kings (3-9-1).

BRONCOS 6 THUNDERBIRDS 4

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – Mathew Ward had a goal and set up another as the Broncos downed Seattle.

Clarke Caswell, Brady Birnie, Rylan Gould, Caleb Wyrostok and Connor Gabriel chipped in for Swift Current (7-6-1).

Eric Alarie and Kazden Mathies both had tow goals for the Thunderbirds (7-3-0).

REBELS 2 WINTERHAWKS 1

RED DEER, Alta. – Kalan Lind had the eventual winner in the second period as the Rebels fended off Portland.

Kai Uchacz and Kalan Lind had the other goals for Red Deer (5-6-1).

Kyle Chyzowski was the lone scorer for the Winterhawks (8-2-0).

CHIEFS 8 ROCKETS 5

SPOKANE, Wash. – Conner Roulette scored four times as the Chiefs blasted Kelowna.

Cole Wadsworth, Layton Feist, Berkly Catton and Ty Cheveldayoff all scored once for Spokane (4-4-2).

Andrew Cristall had a hat trick for the Rockets (7-4-1), while Ty Hurley and Marek Rocak also scored.
