BRANDON – The Regina Pats wrapped up their five-game road swing on Friday with a 7-1 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place.

The Pats only goal was scored by Borya Valis, bringing the Pats within four late in the second period.

The Brandon Wheat Kings rebranded to the Wheat City Walleye for Friday’s contest, as they won their second straight game. Brett Hyland recorded a hat-trick, Rylen Roersma tallied three points (2G-1A), Matteo Michels tallied two points (1G-1A), Nate Danielson picked up three assists and Roger McQueen scored. Carson Bjarnason made 32 saves for his ninth victory of the season.

 

 

ELSEWHERE IN THE DUB:

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – Sloan Stanick had the lone goal of the shootout to help the Prince Albert Raiders to a 4-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night.

Stanick also scored in regulation for Prince Albert. Terrell Goldsmith and Eric Johnston had the other goals for the Raiders.

WARRIORS 5 REBELS 2

RED DEER – Atley Calvert scored twice as the Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Red Deer Rebels.

Brayden Yager, Brayden Schuurman and Jagger Firkus had the other goals for Moose Jaw.

ROCKETS 4 GIANTS 0

VANCOUVER – Jari Kykkanen made 31 saves for the shutout as Kelowna blanked Vancouver.

John Babcock, Dylan Wightman, Gabriel Szturc and Andrew Cristall all scored for the Rockets.

ROYALS 4 BLAZERS 1

KAMLOOPS – Tanner Scott scored twice as the Victoria Royals topped the Kamloops Blazers.

Royals netminder Jayden Kraus saved 22 of 23 shots.

HITMEN 7 TIGERS 3

MEDICINE HAT – Sean Tschigerl scored a hat trick as the Calgary Hitmen defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Carson Wetsch, Keets Fawcett, Carter Yakemchuk and Oliver Tulk added singles for Calgary.

OIL KINGS 5 SILVERTIPS 3

EDMONTON – Marshall Finnie scored a goal and added two assists as the Edmonton Oil Kings beat the Everett Silvertips.

Oil Kings goaltender Kolby Hay kicked out 36 of 39 shots.

WILD 8 WINTERHAWKS 3

WENATCHEE – Matthew Savoie scored three times as the Wenatchee Wild downed the Portland Winterhawks.

Karter Prosofsky scored twice while Conor Geekie, Evan Friesen and Ty Fraser added singles for Wenatchee.

BLADES 3 HURRICANES 1

LETHBRIDGE – Egor Sidorov scored a goal and added an assist as the Saskatoon Blades defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Easton Armstrong and Brandon Lisowsky had the other goals for the Blades.

COUGARS 4 AMERICANS 1

TRI-CITY – Zac Funk had a hat trick as the Prince George Cougars downed the Tri-City Americans.

Cougars goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 30 of 31 shots.

 

 

NHL

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – Jacob MacDonald and Anthony Duclair each scored twice, and Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 44 shots as the San Jose Sharks beat the New Jersey Devils 6-3 on Friday night for their first road win this season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Elvis Merzlikins stopped 41 shots and rallied from two goals down to beat the Ottawa 4-2.

Patrik Laine, Dmitri Voronkov, Adam Fantilli and Boone Jenner scored as the Blue Jackets – last in the Metropolitan Division – won for the second time in three games. Johnny Gaudreau and Zach Werenski added two assists apiece.

 

 

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Michael Penix Jr. passed for 319 yards and a touchdown, Dillon Johnson ran for 152 yards and two TDs and No. 3 Washington wrapped up a spot in the College Football Playoff, beating No. 5 Oregon 34-31 on Friday night in the Pac-12 Championship.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) – Kaidon Salter threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score and undefeated No. 20 Liberty maintained its hopes for a New Year’s Six bowl bid, beating New Mexico State 49-35 in the Conference USA championship game.
