SJHL POWER RANKINGS: EDITION 2

By: Mike Stackhouse

1-BATTLEFORDS NORTH STARS 13-3-1-0 (1)
They’ve lost two of three, which constitutes a major slump for this team.

2-NOTRE DAME HOUNDS 13-5-1-3 (7)
Always tough to evaluate until after Christmas, but they thumped the Stars, have a handful of players at point per game levels, and a veteran goalie holding down the fort.

3-MELFORT MUSTANGS 15-4-3-1 (3)
Unbeaten in five but seem to lack that game breaking forward.

4-WEYBURN RED WINGS 15-6-2-0 (2)
Have won three straight after a major power outage on offense on a three game road trip last weekend.

5-NIPAWIN HAWKS 13-5-1-2 (4)
Brandan Arnold has 13 goals in 15 games since coming back from the WHL and despite being five points behind the Mustangs, they have a better goal differential than Melfort.

6-ESTEVAN BRUINS 14-7-2-0 (6)
Goals are harder to come by in the second half, so the Bruins are going to need to find a few to give up fewer of them before they can move up higher.

7-HUMBOLDT BRONCOS 14-8-1-1 (7)
Losers of two in a row after a lengthy unbeaten run.  Their first place standing is, somewhat, misleading as they are only three points ahead of the North Stars, but have played seven more games.
8-KINDERSLEY KLIPPERS 10-7-2-1 (8)
A sneaky team that can beat or be beat by anyone, losing a one goal game against Melfort, but winning a similar game against Weyburn.
9-FLIN FLON BOMBERS 7-10-1-3 (9)
With December 1st roster cutdown deadline looming, this is an interesting team to see which direction they decide to go.
10-LA RONGE ICE WOLVES 5-13-0-2 (10)
Perfect example that a happy team with less talent can be a better team than one that has more talent that isn’t happy.
11-MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES 7-14-0-2 (11)
They lost 4-1 to Weyburn on Monday and were outshot 43-10 over the final two periods.
12-YORKTON TERRIERS 3-16-2-0 (12)
Pretty much one full calendar year after he was hired to be the assistant coach, Mat Hehr, gets named the head coach.  The task in front of him is enormous.
