SJHL POWER RANKINGS EDITION 4

By: Mike Stackhouse

1-BATTLEFORDS NORTH STARS 19-4-1 (1)
Layne Young has the league scoring lead, Joel Gryzbowski is back from the Saskatoon Blades.  Undisputed team to beat and favorites to repeat as Canalta Cup champions as we hit the halfway point.

2-NIPAWIN HAWKS 18-5-3 (3)
It would be a great series against the Stars if they met in the final.  Hawks have knocked on the door, repeatedly, but haven’t seen the championship series in recent years despite regular season success.

3-MELFORT MUSTANGS 18-5-5 (4)
They aren’t really doing it the conventional way.  Their top offensive threat is defenseman Loch Morrison, but that’s more a comment about Morrison than it is about their forwards.

4-NOTRE DAME HOUNDS 17-7-4 (2)
Jack Flaman is back from the WHL to boost the offense.  Kaleb Bell acquired from Yorkton for sandpaper.

5-ESTEVAN BRUINS 17-10-3 (5)
Hit with some injuries but receiving good goaltending from Matt Lukacs.  Nevertheless, they’ve shored up the position with Bo Didur as well.

6-WEYBURN RED WINGS 16-9-2 (6)
Good now and should be good for the future as Cade Kowalski and Jordan Kazymyra are two of the best rookies in the league.

7-KINDERSLEY KLIPPERS 12-7-4 (8)
Overlooked and unheralded team, but Justen Close could be the single biggest difference maker in the league.

8-HUMBOLDT BRONCOS 14-9-4 (7)
Winless in five and the big strides they made earlier in the year when they were hot are all but gone.

9-MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES 10-17-2 (10)
Sneaky play to secure top six forward Shane Sherban from Yorkton in a three way trade involving Estevan.  Mils could be the most improved second half team.

10-FLIN FLON BOMBERS 8-12-4 (9)
They didn’t sell off on December 1st, but that possibility is very real for January 10th.  There are a number of attractive players for contenders.

11-YORKTON TERRIERS 5-19-2 (12)
Adding Brendan Mark to go with Parker Gavlas gives them building blocks on defense.

12-LA RONGE ICE WOLVES 5-19-4 (11)
The addition of Mitchell Zambon has helped the offense, but they are giving up too many to win games.
