SJHL POWER RANKINGS: FIRST EDITION

1-BATTLEFORDS NORTH STARS 12-1-1-0
Third coach in as many seasons usually catches up to a Junior ‘A’ team, but not the Stars, who seem to never miss a beat.


2-WEYBURN RED WINGS 12-4-2-0
Offense appeared like it was going to be hard to come by early on, but they’ve been rolling as of late.


3-MELFORT MUSTANGS 13-4-2-1
Two time defending champs took a step back last year, but have returned to contender status.


4-NIPAWIN HAWKS 11-4-1-2
It’s a stacked roster with plenty of offense and Declan Hobbs as, arguably, the best goalie in the league the last line of defense.


5-HUMBOLDT BRONCOS 12-6-1-1
Unbeaten in their last five, it looked like goalie Brock Hamm was coming back from the WHL, but the play of underaged local phenom Jacob Wassermann has ensured the trade of Hamm to BC hasn’t impacted them negatively.


6-ESTEVAN BRUINS 12-6-1-0
The most explosive offense in the league mixed with the most inconsistent defensively means a middle of the pack ranking….for now.


7-NOTRE DAME HOUNDS 10-5-1-3
The loss of Alec Zawatsky to the Saskatoon Blades hurts, but they’ve picked up four points in their last three games to stay competitive in the ultra tough Olympic Buildings Division.


8-KINDERSLEY KLIPPERS 8-6-2-1
Not a bad team, but with the Hounds, Broncos, and Stars in front of them, it’s going to be tough sledding going forward.


9-FLIN FLON BOMBERS 7-9-0-3
Got off to a hot start, then went into tank for half a dozen games and have two wins in their last ten.


10-LA RONGE ICE WOLVES 4-12-0-1
Improved from last year, but a long way to go before they are taken seriously.


11-MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES 6-12-0-2
Began the year with an enviable roster.  Somehow it fell apart quickly, but there are signs of a regroup.


12-YORKTON TERRIERS 3-14-2-0
The league’s biggest market has seen its team get, continually, worse since their RBC Cup win in 2014.
