STAMPEDERS 27 ARGONAUTS 15

HAMILTON – Bo Levi Mitchell threw two TD passes as Calgary beat the Toronto Argonauts 27-15 on Saturday at Tim Hortons Field, earning Stampeders head coach/GM John Hufnagel his 100th career regular-season win.

Hufnagel, who’ll hand head-coaching duties to offensive co-ordinator Dave Dickenson at season’s end, improved to 100-41-1. Calgary (12-4) moved atop the West Division ahead of Edmonton (11-4), which hosted the B.C. Lions (5-9) later Saturday.

Mitchell cemented the victory with a 14-yard TD strike to Tory Harrison at 5:38 of the fourth quarter, giving Calgary a 27-10 lead. The Stampeders dropped a 15-11 home loss to Edmonton last weekend but have gone a CFL-record 67 regular-season games without consecutive losses.

Calgary also went 2-0 this season versus Toronto, downing the Argos 25-20 at McMahon Stadium in July.

Just 3,401 spectators took in the game, braving cool, windy conditions. And they all sat in the east stands as the west side – where the TV cameras shot the action – was closed.

The contest was played here due to scheduling issues at Rogers Centre with the Toronto Blue Jays in the baseball playoffs. The Argos return to Tim Hortons Field on Friday to face the Montreal Alouettes again because of the baseball post-season.

It's going to be a great day ahead when the Saskatchewan Roughriders Club hand over complete control of football operations to Mr. Hufnagel. He's "focused" and fully "competent" to the job at hand to the teams future.

Can't get over how much that Messam trade could mean to Calgary. Could actually add another American to the O line. Insurance at RB if Cornish injured. And of course play those two guys together. Wow!

Huskies got higher attendance for blow out er blackout night than the Argos. For Rams fans blackout night is a promo featuring fireworks at halftime with the stadium lights off. Sadly the huskies and the fireworks got the ram flu and neither worked. The display was set off after the game. Great show.

Sure, the Messam trade may allow them to dress another American, but not play one. It doesn't change the ratio.

Can you get over it now?
