STAMPEDERS ADD HUGH CHARLES

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of international running back Hugh Charles to the practice roster. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Currently in his seventh CFL season, Charles has rushed 401 times for 2,170 yards and 15 touchdowns and added 82 receptions for 995 yards and five touchdowns over 55 games with Saskatchewan and Edmonton. He has also returned 78 kickoffs for 1,718 yards, a 22.0 average.

“Hugh is a CFL veteran who over the years has demonstrated great ability as a runner, a receiver out of the backfield and a kick returner,” said Hufnagel. “With our current injury situation, Hugh provides some very valuable depth for us at the running back and kick-returner positions.”

Charles first joined the league as a free agent with Saskatchewan in 2008 where he played 21 games before being traded to Edmonton on Oct. 12, 2011. Charles became the Eskimos’ featured back in 2012 and 2013, amassing 1,292 rushing yards and 724 receiving yards over 31 regular-season games.

Charles was released by Edmonton at the end of training camp this year and played one game with Saskatchewan.

an ESPN reporter based out of Kansas City today said that he's not expected Dressler to make the team. Instead he believes Kansas City has some good young talent they'll keep around instead. Thoughts?

Dresser is playing with the Big Dogs right now! He is getting a very close look and if he can make special teams he will make the team.

To the brainwashed Taman supporter:

Taman had all winter to find a running back. Hufnagel had no way of knowing Cornish would be then his replacement Walter also injured.
Totally different scenario.

dressler will not be making the NFL this is nothing more then an experience for him plus he got a nice signing bonus for his accomplishments in the CFL… he is nothing more then a body at training camp.

He will be back in the CFL and it will not be with the Riders

Winnipeg/other destination after all NFL opportunities exhausted, closer to North Dakota port of entry, travel user friendly for family. Marc Trestman and his Chicago Bears on stand by.

They are not going to keep a 29 year old around just as a punt returner…..rosters are tight and the returner goes to someone younger in a development role who can also be a injury option for one of the receiver positions. The Chiefs have several younger options in this area. As I have said since February Dress will be back with the Riders…on the sidelines for Labour Day and in uniform for Banjo Bowl.

Dressier will go to the team with the most cash. Football is a short career need to make as much money as possible. Can't imagine he would want to play in a place where is salary needs to be supplemented by traveling to small town fundraiser all winter.
