STAMPEDERS ADD TOSTON & QB

Former Rider Keith Toston

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of international running back Keith Toston and international quarterback Dominique Davis. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Toston appeared in one regular-season game for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2014 – an Oct. 24 contest at Calgary – and carried the ball six times for 72 yards. He averaged 12 yards per carry and his longest run was 41 yards. He also added two catches for six yards.

The 27-year-old Angleton, Tex., native has 21 games of National Football League experience with the St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars and accumulated 36 carries for 128 yards and five receptions for 70 yards.

Toston played four seasons (2006-09) at Oklahoma State and was voted first-team all-Big 12 in his senior season after rushing for 1,230 yards and 11 touchdowns. Toston also had 25 catches for 261 yards and a major as well as a one-yard passing touchdown. In 2008, he led the Cowboys with a 6.7-yard average per carry and scored 11 touchdowns. For his career, Toston accumulated 2,769 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns as well as 51 receptions for 507 yards and three scores.

Davis was with the Atlanta Falcons for two seasons as the backup to starting quarterback Matt Ryan and also spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts. He saw action in one game for the Falcons in 2013 and completed five of seven passes for 34 yards.

Collegiately, Davis played two seasons (2010-11) at East Carolina and completed 727 of 1,103 passes for 7,192 yards and 62 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 172 times for 313 yards and 14 scores. In 2010, Davis threw for 3,967 yards and 37 touchdowns.

The six-foot-three, 210-lb. product of Lakeland, Fla., spent the 2009 season at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas and led his team to a final national ranking of No. 2. He threw for 1,467 yards and had eight touchdowns through the air and 12 on the ground. He started his university career at Boston College and threw for 741 yards and six touchdowns.

Toston is going to show the Riders what they have missed all along (ala Marcus Thigpen). Watch out!

Hope Toston has success, he was a monster whenever we let him play.

Just speculation but was it his pass catching ability that limited him here? Otherwise I'm with Anon #2 that he must have crossed Chamblin to not get at least a crack in the rotation last year.

Good luck Keith, and GO RIDERS!!!

Nothing against him and glad he got another opportunity … but he signed with a team that has two RB's that are flat out better than him and both are Canadian! If he makes it out of camp it will be directly to the practice roster – a place he is familiar with.

We will be sorry we let him get away. Performed big time when he had the chance. Very strong runner and hard to take down.

Serious fumbleitis with this guy. That was also the rub on him in college. With Allen, Messam, and Steven Miller, we're in good hands( play on words!!)

I'm not sure why we let Toston leave. He would have won the Heisman four times and would have rushed for 2,000 yards last year if he'd had more touches. 😉 Yeah, sure, there is a chance he turns into something but he will not be playing regularily in Cgy unless Cornish goes down for the season. If he does, they'll possibly consider making the ratio change but otherwise they roll with the backups. I know many of us know more than the coaches and management of the Riders and it's tough letting them stay in charge when we could… Read more »

And people criticize Taman for picking up other teams players… part of the business…. All good GM's do it.

I'll let you pigeons in on a little secret about Toston……he walked out and quit the team twice last year only to return. He's lucky Taman and Chamblin took him back.
He fumbled consistently through camp, pre-season games and practice throughout the year.
He's a pain in the a##!

Coach will not play backs if they drop the ball….doesn't treat receivers who drop the ball…very inconsistent….hope new OC has control of the offence. Fans never found out why certain backs were used & others who seemed to have better yardage were benched….some suggest it was because they could not block. Be nice to know these things maybe fans would be more understanding. Bit worrisome that Calgary coaches don't see the weakness that rider seem to have seen. Time will definitely tell.

Word in the Laundromat is you guys don't have a clue and that's why you're only fans with absolutely no responsibility of team operations.

With Chamblin you never get a second chance. Lord only knows what Toston did but it got him a life sentence as far as the Riders are concerned. I really do hope it comes back to bite Chamblin right where he sits.
