STAMPS SIGN SHOMARI
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that free-agent national player Shomari Williams has signed a contract with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Williams, a veteran of five seasons with Saskatchewan (2010-12 and 2014) and Hamilton (2013), has played both defensive end and linebacker during his CFL career in addition to being a special-teams standout.
The Toronto native played all 18 regular-season contests for Saskatchewan in 2014 and established a personal best with 17 special-teams tackles, which was the second-highest total on the team.
“Shomari has been a very good special-teams player during his career and his versatility on defence will also be a valuable asset for us,” said Hufnagel.
Williams was selected first overall by the Roughriders in the 2010 draft and played three seasons before signing with the Tiger-Cats in 2013. He was traded back to Saskatchewan in 2014. In 78 career games, he had 89 tackles, including three tackles for loss, 50 special-teams tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception and one pass knockdown.
“I’m happy to be joining a winning organization and look forward to trying to help the Stampeders to win another Grey Cup,” said Williams.
Huff is so brutal … just signs recycled players. and Shomari is so bad he doesn't belong in the league according to all the knowledge on RiderFans.
Maybe Huffer can light a fire under him but I doubt it. You can't coach desire.
Funny thing is if this was the Riders signing him everyone would be complaining about hiring retreads. Who gives a damn where players come from or who found them. It's about signing available players that can potentially help your team win.
Still seems that Shomari would have made for a bit of a trade…
Everyone knows he has under-performed, but a former overall first rounder Canadian must be worth something on the market… Even if it was a draft choice, I find it hard to believe Sask could not get anything for that guy???

Most Rider fans(posters) on here no squat.
I wonder if Huff will sign Sisco tomorrow
The difference is that Calgary signed him at a reasonable salary for what his role will be there as opposed to the Riders who overpaid him last year. You can't trade a player with a fat contract.
How do you know what he was paid last year?
Oh yeah Huff is such a genius. Signing a bunch of washed up players from Sask that couldn't cut the mustard. Have fun with that Stumps fans. We will enjoy mopping the floor with you guys this year in Huff's final year.

Crappy first overall pick. He was a bust…didn't we actually trade UP to get this guy? lol
The Riders may have "overpaid" him last year, but it wasn't there contract. It was that genius in Hamilton that signed him to that fat contract.
In the CFL you need Canadian special teamers. Most fans absolutely do not understand that. He will be missed on the teams.
Yeah the guy underperformed. A first string special teams player at best. No first string starter at LB as promised.
Was a converted failed D-lineman first was he not ?
He can still make a meaningful contribution. Problem was his contract didn't work for the Riders. Huff got him for less $$$
Shomari is the CFL's answer to Alexandre Daigle. A flop.
