STEINBACH TAKES ANAVET CUP SERIES LEAD

NIPAWIN – For the first time in this year’s Anavet Cup, the SJHL Canalta Cup Champion Nipawin Hawks find themselves trailing the series. They fell 6-2 to the Steinbach Pistons on Tuesday in the Cage as the series shifted to Nipawin.

The Pistons have won back to back games and now lead the Best-of-Seven series 2-1.

Steinbach led 4-0 after two periods and 5-0 late in the third.  Bradley Schoonbaert had a goal and two assists to lead them, and he’s racked up seven points (2g-5a) in the three games so far.  Brady Tatro and Drew Worrad each had a goal and an assist while Matthew Thiessen made 23/25 saves.

Logan Casavant and Carter Doerksen got the Hawks on the board late in the third period when it was out of reach.  Declan Hobbs stopped 27/33 shots in goal.

They’ll go right back at it Wednesday in Nipawin for Game 4 as the Hawks look to even things up.  They’ll take Thursday off before staying in Nipawin for Game 5 Friday.  If the Hawks can win at least one of those next two at home, they’ll head back to Steinbach Monday and if necessary Tuesday.
