STUBLER JOINS STAMPS
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that Rich Stubler has been named the team’s defensive coordinator.
“I’m pleased to be able to add a coach with such a wealth of experience,” said Hufnagel. “Rich has a great track record of success as a coach in this league and I know he’ll be a tremendous asset to our staff.”
Stubler joins Calgary after spending the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the BC Lions. Last season, Stubler’s defence ranked in the top three in 12 statistical categories including fewest passing yards allowed (1st) and fewest rushing yards allowed (2nd). In 2012, Stubler’s defence ranked first against in both categories.
“I’m appreciative that the Stampeders and Coach Hufnagel have a little faith in me,” says Stubler. “I’m really excited to come and work for the Red and White.”
With over four decades of coaching experience, Stubler first joined the CFL in 1983 as the defensive coordinator for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In addition to the BC Lions, he has also been on the coaching staffs of the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos and is a four-time Grey Cup winner — 1986 with Hamilton, 1993 with Edmonton, 2000 with BC and 2004 with Toronto.
