Play is underway at the All England Club as Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer face each other in the men’s final at Wimbledon. Djokovic won the Wimbledon crown in 2011 and was runner-up last year. Federer meanwhile is back in a major final for the first time since winning Wimbledon in 2012.

The Toronto Blue Jays are the first team to play the new-look Oakland Athletics. Jeff Samardzija makes his Oakland debut while Toronto counters with Drew Hutchison. Samardzija and fellow pitcher Jason Hammel were acquired Friday from the Chicago Cubs in a blockbuster deal.

The Queen’s Plate — North America’s oldest continuously run stakes event — goes today at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack. We Miss Artie is the favourite but Lexie Lou is also featured in the 15-horse field. The lone filly beat We Miss Artie in their last race.

British sprinter Mark Cavendish has pulled out of the Tour de France ahead of the second stage with a separated shoulder. His team says the pain was too much for the rider to continue. Cavendish saw his hopes of winning his first yellow jersey disappear yesterday when he hit the ground near the finish of the first stage in his mother’s hometown of Harrogate.

Billy Hurley the Third remains the leader at the Greenbrier Classic as he seeks his first career PGA victory. Hurley fired a 3-under-par 67 in the third round for a 12-under total, two strokes ahead of Angel Cabrera. Hurley hasn’t relinquished the lead since midway through the second round.

The British Grand Prix was halted on the opening lap after a collision involving Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa of Williams. Massa escaped unhurt and drove back to the pits without his left rear wheel, but Raikkonen emerged limping from his smashed Ferrari that had lost most of the front end and left rear wheel.
