Boston Leier and Braden Christoffer each scored twice as the Regina Pats hammered the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-1 in a chippy Western Hockey League game Saturday in Regina.

Dyson Stevenson and Dryden Hunt also scored for the Pats (15-12-1), while Nick Schneider made 13 saves in net.

Bryson Gore scored the lone goal for Moose Jaw (8-18-5) nearly three minutes into the game before Regina’s offence exploded. Warriors goalie Zachary Sawchenko meanwhile stopped 29 shots.

There was no shortage of penalties handed out, especially during a fight-filled third period. Both teams combined for 35 infractions and 161 minutes in the box.

Don Cherry says you shouldn’t mess with a good thing. The 79-year-old hockey commentator used his Coach’s Corner segment on “Hockey Night in Canada” to address the recent Rogers’ acquisition of N-H-L rights in Canada. Rogers will have executive control over the popular Saturday night program, but Cherry says he wants Coach’s Corner to remain as it is now.

Cherry also addressed the recent lawsuit against the NHL from players who said they suffered concussions, describing it as a “money grab.” The hockey personality criticized the lawsuit, which was filed in U-S federal court on Monday, during his Coach’s Corner segment on “Hockey Night in Canada.” The original lawsuit included 10 former players, but that number has already grown to more than 200, according to lawyers.

The Flames earned a stunning late victory in Los Angeles. Michael Cammalleri scored with 23 seconds left to lift Calgary past the Kings 2-1. Blair Jones added a short-handed goal during a five-minute penalty kill for the Flames in the second period.

Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves, but it wasn’t enough to give Toronto a victory as the Leafs fell 4-2 to the Canadiens in Montreal. Max Pacioretty scored twice and added an assist, and P-K Subban and Tomas Plekanec had goals for the Canadiens and Carey Price stopped 34 shots.

Milan Lucic scored a twice to lift the Boston Bruins to a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. David Krejci added two assists for the Eastern Conference-leading Bruins, who are 10-2-and-2 in their last 14 games. Boston’s Chad Johnson needed only 13 saves for the win in just his fifth start. Number-one goalie Tuukka Rask was given the night off.

Health officials are investigating whether a contagious stomach virus is the cause of a flu-like outbreak that has sickened dozens of players, coaches and parents taking part in a youth football tournament in Las Vegas. The Southern Nevada Health District is interviewing the sick and taking samples from them as part of an investigation to pinpoint the cause of the outbreak.

You know , I guess Cherry has been good for a lot of people. But I always remember him saying that once a hockey player gets to a certain age that he should retire before he embarrasses himself. Well this also applies to Mr. Cherry himself who will be 80 next year, and he is telling hockey players that average 28 years old in the NHL how to play and how he used to play. Don, I really think it is that time.

Totally agree with anon #2. Don Cherry should just go away. His message is way past its due date. The man still lives in the '60's.

Great hockey game last night, it's to bad there weren't even 4000 people there to witness it, but those that were there to witness it probably noticed one thing: The Pats and Warriors rivalry is BACK!!

…Cherry you've had your day…go quietly and quickly.

Pats – a great game…no let up last night. Again I thought all the Pat goals were very "nice to watch"…beautiful tic-tac-toe plays or great individual efforts. Gotta be some of them on WHL PLays of the Week for sure!! Good luck in your games this week.
