NHL ROUND-UP
Deryk Engelland, Chris Kunitz and Jussi Jokinen scored and backup Jeff Zatkoff had 19 saves in his first NHL win to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-0. That’s the Penguins’ fourth victory in a row.
In other NHL action:
– Brandon Bollig, Patrick Sharp and Nick Leddy scored within a 4:55 span in the second period to lead Chicago to a 5-1 win over Winnipeg. The Blackhawks have won three straight to improve to 9-2-3 this season.
– After being embarrassed 7-0 by Washington at home just 24 hours earlier, the Philadelphia Flyers found a way to gut out a win on the road, edging the New Jersey Devils 1-0. Brayden Schenn scored on a deflection.
– Derek Stepan scored his first three goals of the season, and Carl Hagelin added his first two as the New York Rangers’ had their best offensive output of the season in a 5-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
– John Tavares, Andrew MacDonald and Thomas Vanek scored second-period goals, and the New York Islanders beat Boston 3-1.
– The Washington Capitals scored on all three of their shootout chances and edged Florida 3-2. Nicklas Backstrom delivered the shootout clincher.
– Anaheim doubled up Buffalo 6-3. Emerson Etem and Corey Perry both scored two goals. The Sabres fall to 2-13-1.
– Brett Connolly and Valtteri Filppula scored in the third period in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues.
– Roberto Luongo made 21 saves for his second shutout of the season, leading the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-0 victory over Toronto.

– The hole keeps getting deeper in Edmonton. The Oilers are on a five-game losing streak after getting crushed 5-0 at home to the Detroit Red Wings.

– The Colorado Avalanche scored three times in the third period to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-1.


WHL ROUND-UP
The Swift Current Broncos scored six times in the third period, including three goals in the first three minutes, to come from behind and defeat the Saskatoon Blades 7-6 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.
Graham Black and Connor Sanvido each scored twice for the Broncos (10-8-1), who trailed 5-1 after 40 minutes of play, while Black tacked on two assists for a four-point outing.
Julius Honka, Jay Merkley and Coda Gordon had a goal and an assist apiece to round out Swift Current’s offence.
Matt Revel scored three goals for the Blades (7-10-2), who have lost four games in a row. Collin Valcourt had two goals and two assists and Nathan Burns scored once.
AMERICANS 8 HURRICANES 1
LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Jessy Astles had two goals and two assists as Tri-City crushed the Hurricanes.
Devon McAndrews and Marcus Messier each had a goal and two assists for the Americans (9-8-2) while Ty Comrie, Philip Tot, Brian Williams and Parker Bowles scored the others.
Kolten Olynek scored the lone goal for Lethbridge (2-12-3), which is winless in its last five games.
Tri-City’s Eric Comrie made 25 saves while Corbin Boes took the loss for the Hurricanes after giving up three goals on seven shots in eight minutes of action. Christopher Tai replaced Boes and stopped 27-of-32 shots in relief.
RAIDERS 3 WARRIORS 2 (OT)
MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Dakota Conroy scored 2:53 into overtime as Prince Albert came from behind to defeat the Warriors.
MacKenzie Johnston forced overtime with a goal at 16:47 of the third period while Leon Draisaitl scored in the first period for the Raiders (11-6-1).
Sam Fioretti opened the scoring for Moose Jaw (6-9-4) and Torrin White added a go-ahead goal at 6:34 of the third.
Nick McBride stopped 35 shots for Prince Albert. Justin Paulic made 28 saves for the Warriors, who dropped their third straight game.
GIANTS 4 BLAZERS 3 (SO)
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Brett Kulak scored the shootout winner as Vancouver edged the Blazers.
Dalton Thrower, Thomas Foster and Blake Orban scored in regulation for the Giants (7-10-2) while Carter Popoff had two assists.
Nick Chyzowski scored twice for Kamloops (5-10-2) and Collin Shirley added a single goal.
Payton Lee made 33 saves for Vancouver as Bolton Pouliot turned away 29 shots for the Blazers.
ROCKETS 4 COUGARS 1
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Jackson Whistle turned back 29 shots as Kelowna beat the Cougars for its fourth straight victory.
Madison Bowey, Zach Franko, Kris Schmidli and Ryan Olsen scored for the Rockets (11-2-0) and Damon Severson tacked on two assists.
Carson Bolduc supplied the scoring for Prince George (7-9-4).
Cougars’ netminder Brett Zarowny stopped 36-of-39 shots in a losing cause.
SILVERTIPS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 0
EVERETT, Wash. – Daniel Cotton only had to make 16 saves and Joshua Winquist scored twice as the Silvertips blanked Seattle.
Ben Betker, Carson Stadnyk and Ivan Nikolishin each had a goal and an assist for Everett (11-3-2).
Seth Swenson was a team-worst minus-3 for the Thunderbirds (11-5-0) and Jaimen Yakubowski dropped the gloves twice.
Seattle’s Danny Mumaugh stopped 30 shots in defeat.
WINTERHAWKS 3 CHIEFS 1
SPOKANE, Wash. – Nicolas Petan set up all three of his club’s goals, extending his points streak to 10 games, as Portland downed the Chiefs for its 11th win in a row.
Paul Bittner, Alex Schoenborn and Oliver Bjorkstrand scored for the Winterhawks (14-3-1).
Cole Hedman scored for Spokane (12-5-0) while Mitch Holmberg had his 17-game point streak snapped.
Portland’s Brendan Burke made 30 saves for the win as Eric Williams 26 shots for the Chiefs.
ROYALS 3 REBELS 1
VICTORIA – The Royals scored two power-play goals in the first period en route to beating Red Deer.
Austin Carroll and Logan Nelson scored with the man advantage for Victoria (10-8-1) and Tyler Soy added an even-strength goal in the second period.
Cole Chorney produced the only goal for the Rebels (7-9-1).
Patrik Polivka made 27 saves for the Royals as Patrik Bartosak turned aside 32-of-35 shots for Red Deer.
The Edmonton Eskimos ended a difficult regular season with a 30-26 win over playoff-bound Saskatchewan. James Miles helped the Eskimos to their fourth win of the season by scoring on a 79-yard punt return with barely a minute remaining. Winnipeg was blasted one last time, finishing its season 3-and-15 after 37-7 loss to Hamilton.
The Calgary Stampeders say former receiver Herm Harrison has died at 71. Harrison played for Calgary from 1964 to ’72 in a career that included three Grey Cup appearances and a championship in ’71. He still holds the team record of four touchdown receptions, which he set in a game against Winnipeg in 1970. The three-time all-star was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
Rudy Gay had 18 points and 15 rebounds, and the Toronto Raptors didn’t lose their composure after blowing a 12-point lead, as they beat Milwaukee 97-90. The Philadelphia 76ers continued their stunning start to the season, beating Chicago 107-104. The Sixers were pegged to be one of the league’s worst teams, and instead opened the season with wins over the Bulls, Washington and Miami.
