- Claude Giroux scored the winner on a second-period power play as the Ottawa Senators topped the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 to register their sixth straight NHL victory Saturday night. Jake Sanderson, David Perron and Michael Amadio had the other goals for the Senators, who have victories in seven of their last eight. William Nylander and Auston Matthews replied for Toronto, which has dropped five of its last six.
- Cole Caufield had a goal and assist, Patrik Laine had another power-play goal, and the Montreal Canadiens knocked off the visiting Florida Panthers 3-1. Christian Dvorak also scored for the Canadiens, who had lost three of their last four games. Mackie Samoskevich scored for the Panthers, who had won five or their last six games.
- Alex Ovechkin had a goal and assist, Logan Thompson made 19 saves, and the visiting Washington Capitals defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-1 today. Ovechkin now needs only eight goals to break Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record of 894. Rookie Macklin Celebrini scored his 21st goal of the season for the Sharks.
- Elias Pettersson, Conor Garland and Pius Suter had a goal and assist and the Vancouver Canucks beat the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 6-2. Quinn Hughes, Tyler Myers and Nils Aman also scored for the Canucks, who moved into the West’s second wild-card spot, two points up on the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues.

REGINA, Sask. — Rylan Gould scored three goals and added an assist as the visiting Swift Current Broncos beat the Regina Pats 7-5.
Mayo Hunter had two goals and three assists for the Broncos (34-28-1-2), while Carlin Dezainde and Marek Rocak netted singles. Luke Mistelbacher chipped in with four assists, while Clarke Caswell added a pair.
Zach Pantelakis scored twice for the Pats (15-41-5-3), while Ashton Brown, Jace Egland and Caden Brown added singles. Cameron Kuzma, Sam Failler and Kolten Bridgeman each chipped in with two assists.
MLB
The Toronto Blue Jays will play the Atlanta Braves in exhibition baseball action today at T-D Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida. The Jays, who dropped a 9-5 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday, are 12-and-8 in Grapefruit League play. The Braves are 9-and-10.
NBA
- Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 48 points and the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Detroit Pistons 113-107 in NBA action on Saturday. Gilgeous-Alexander added six assists and three steals for the Thunder, who won for the ninth time in 10 games. Tobias Harris led the Pistons with 18 points.
- There are eight games in the NBA Sunday, including one in Portland where the Toronto Raptors will be looking to win their fourth straight game. The 28-and-39 Trail Blazers, who are 13th in the Western Conference, have lost five games in a row.
GOLF
American J-J Spaun survived a wild, windy and round-wrecking Saturday at The Players Championship. His two-under-par 70 has given him a one-shot lead over American Bud Cauley. Rory McIlroy, Akshay Bhatia and Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario, are four shots behind. Two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler bogeyed two of his last three holes and was seven shots behind.
NFL
The Minnesota Vikings have acquired restricted free-agent running back Jordan Mason from the San Francisco 49ers and rewarded him with a two-year deal worth up to 12-million dollars (U-S). Two people familiar with the deal confirmed the trade that sends a 2026 sixth-round pick to San Francisco on Saturday. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because neither team had announced the move.
