Connor Crowson’s solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning was of the walk-off variety, as the Okotoks Dawgs eaked out a 6-5 victory over the visiting Moose Jaw Miller Express in Game 3 of the Best-of-3 Western Canadian Baseball League Championship Series. The Millers had forced the deciding game with a thrilling 8-7 win Friday at Ross Wells Park. It’s the third consecutive title for the Dawgs.

Right-hander Bowden Francis will take the mound for the BlueJays today as Toronto looks to avoid a three-game sweep by the Cubs. Chicago took a 3-2 victory yesterday after Ian Happ homered in the first inning and Michael Busch added a two-run triple in the fifth. Lefty Shota Imanaga is set to start for the Cubs in the series finale.
CFL
- The CFL has reinstated Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly with conditions, the league announced Sunday morning. The decision comes after the league on May 7 suspended Kelly, the CFL’s outstanding player last season, for Toronto’s two exhibition games and first nine regular-season contests for violating the league’s gender-based violence policy. “The Canadian Football League (CFL) has reinstated Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly on a last-chance agreement provided that he continues to meet a number of ongoing conditions,” the league said in a statement. The league said the conditions are confidential and will not be disclosed. Kelly will rejoin the Argos on Sunday and participate in his first practice with the team.
- The Edmonton Elks have stretched their win streak to three games, downing the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 47-22. Edmonton started the season with seven straight losses but the team has worked its way back into the playoff race in recent weeks. Interim head coach Jarious Jackson says even with the string of victories, his players are keeping their heads down and taking the season one game at a time.
- Quarterback Nathan Rourke will be back in the lineup Sunday night as his B-C Lions host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The 26-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Lions earlier this week after a two-year stint in the NFL. The Victoria-born QB was named the CFL’s top Canadian with the Lions in 2022.

So Kelly comes back, he gets the Riders on another short week traveling east. Does every team have this many short weeks?
Lauther has had a bad year so far, not just a bad game, he’s about 70% , not good enough. We need a kicker!!
Congrats to the MJ Miller Express. Proof positive MJ is a hard scrabble take what you can get and make the most of it town. Okotoks has every advantage to long to go into. What MJ pulled off is akin to what the Warriors did. Do more with less and come together. This is also a lesson to the kids out there. WCBL is Junior B Hockey and with so many Jr Colleges/Colleges teams are always looking for plug and play players. Every now and then a guy like Mitch McDonald/Carter Beck comes along where people are in awe. When… Read more »
