The Toronto Maple Leafs’ five-game win streak is over. Mathew Barzal scored a natural hat trick in less than eight minutes of action in the second period as the New York Islanders downed the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0. The game marked the first for John Tavares against the Islanders since he bolted New York to sign with Toronto in free agency.

Adam Erne scored with just over a minute left in the third period as the Tampa Bay Lightning snapped Montreal Canadiens’ three-game win streak with a 6-5 victory. Erne finished with two goals and an assist, while NHL scoring leader Nikita Kucherov added a goal and an assist. Andrew Shaw led Montreal with a pair of goals.

A fourth straight loss for the Ottawa Senators. Tyler Lewington and Tom Wilson each had a goal and an assist to lead the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 win over the short-handed Senators. Ottawa was without top defenceman Thomas Chabot and fellow blue-liner Christian Jaros following injuries Friday in a 6-3 loss to the New York Islanders.

Alex Edler played hero for the Vancouver Canucks Saturday night. The Canucks’ veteran defenceman scored 3:06 into overtime to give Vancouver 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames. In a back-and-forth overtime, Edler one-timed a pass from Brock Boeser that just dribbled through the pads of David Rittich. Boeser and Elias Pettersson also scored for Vancouver.

Amanda Nunes has become just the third fighter in UFC history to hold two title belts simultaneously. Nunes knocked out Cris “Cyborg” Justino 51 seconds into the first round at UFC 232, ending the featherweight champion’s 13-year unbeaten run. Nunes, the U-F-C’s bantamweight champion, moved up 10 pounds to challenge Justino, widely considered the world’s greatest female fighter.

A dominant night for Kitchener, Ontario’s Jamal Murray. Murray scored 46 points and made a career-high nine 3-pointers to carry the Western Conference-leading Denver Nuggets to a 122-118 victory over Phoenix. Murray was 16 for 24 from the field with the second-most points he’s scored in a game this season. He scored 31 a night earlier in a win over San Antonio.
