REGINA – Life in Regina hockey circles has been a big adjustment since Connor Bedard graduated from the Pats to the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks.

But the Pats continue to score, and find ways to win.

Parker Berge had a goal and assist as the Pats defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-1 in Western Hockey League action on Saturday at the Brandt Centre.

Tye Spencer and Braxton Whitehead also scored for the Pats, who improved to 6-3-1-0.

Trae Wilke scored for the Hurricanes (5-4-1-0), who were outshot 26-20.

BLADES 2 HITMEN 0

SASKATOON, Sask. – Evan Gardner stopped 32 shots to earn the shutout as the Saskatoon Blades edged the Calgary Hitmen 2-0.

Egor Sidorov and Vaughn Watterodt scored for the Blades (6-2-0-0).

Netminder Ethan Buenaventura kicked out 25 of 26 shots for the Hitmen (2-7-0-0).

AMERICANS 5 BLAZERS 2

KENNEWICK, Wash. – Parker Bell had a goal and two assists as the Tri-City Americans dumped the visiting Kamloops Blazers 5-2.

Deagan McMillan, Lukas Dragicevic, Jordan Gavin and Nick Anisimovicz also scored for the Americans (4-2-0-0).

Dylan Sydor and Andrew Thompson scored for the Blazers (1-5-2-0).

TIGERS 9 ROCKETS 2

KELOWNA, B.C. – Shane Smith scored the hat trick and added two assists as the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers crushed the Kelowna Rockets 9-2 on the strength of four power-play goals.

Cayden Lindstrom also scored twice for the Tigers (5-2-1-0), with singles added by Hunter St. Martin, Reid Andresen, Gavin McKenna and Kadon McCann.

Tij Iginla and Andrew Cristall scored for the Rockets (3-4-1-0).

CHIEFS 3 WHEAT KINGS 2

SPOKANE, Wash. – Cole Wadsworth scored the game-winning goal at 8:48 of the third period as the Chiefs edged the Wheat Kings 3-2.

Berkly Catton scored twice while Cole Wadsworth scored once for the Chiefs (4-3-0-0).

Anthony Wilson scored twice for the Wheat Kings (5-4-1-0).

RAIDERS 6 WARRIORS 3

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Sloan Stanick scored a goal and added two assists as the Prince Albert Raiders beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-3.

Aiden Oiring, Niall Crocker, Cole Peardon, Brayden Dube and Ryder Ritchie also scored for the Raiders (6-3-0-0).

Atley Calvert, Lynden Lakovic and Harper Lolacher scored for the Warriors (6-4-0-0).

ROYALS 7 BRONCOS 2

VICTORIA, B.C. – Teydon Trembecky scored twice as the Victoria Royals whipped the Swift Current Broncos 7-2.

Tanner Scott, Nate Misskey, Austin Zemlak, Reggie Newman and Justin Kipkie also scored for the Royals (3-5-0-0).

Tyson Laventure and Ty Coupland scored for the Broncos (3-5-1-0).

 

 

NHL

The Vancouver Canucks won their second game in as many NHL regular-season outings by defeating the Oilers 4-3 in Edmonton on Saturday. Nils Hoglander, Andrei Kuzmenjo, Sam Lafferty and Jack Studnicka scored for the Canucks. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid scored for the Oilers, who were beaten 8-1 on Wednesday in Vancouver.

Auston Matthews seems intent on wearing out his team’s new goal song. Matthews recorded his second hat trick in as many games as the Toronto Maple Leafs whipped the visiting Minnesota Wild 7-4 in NHL action Saturday. William Nylander scored twice for the Leafs, who improved to 2-and-0. In Montreal, the Canadiens got goals from Sean Monahan, Cole Caufield and Tanner Pearson to beat the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 3-2. Tyler Johnson scored both Chicago goals. Connor Bedard had an assist for Chicago.

The Calgary Flames suffered their first loss of the NHL season on Saturday, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Bryan Rust scored twice for the Pens. Matt Coronato and Jonathan Huberdeau scored for the 1-and-1 Flames. Earlier, the Ottawa Senators flattened the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2, while the Winnipeg Jets edged the Florida Panthers 6-4.

 

CFL

Chad Kelly’s third-quarter T-D pass and two-point convert rallied the Toronto Argonauts to a 40-27 C-F-L home win over the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday. The Argos improved to a league-best 14-and-2. Meanwhile, a 125-yard touchdown return from James Letcher Junior highlighted a second-quarter scoring explosion from the visiting Montreal Alouettes in a 35-21 win over the Edmonton Elks Saturday.

 

NFL

The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, the only unbeaten teams in the NFL will be aiming to improve to 6-0 today. The 49ers visit the 2-2 Cleveland Browns, while the Eagles visit the 2-3 New York Jets. The Carolina Panthers, the only winless team at 0-5 will visit the 4-1 Miami Dolphins.

 

CANADA WEST

The University of Regina Rams bowed out of the Canada West playoff picture with a 41-34 setback to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon at Mosaic Stadium.

Meanwhile it was a U SPORTS Top 10 matchup in Edmonton on Saturday afternoon, as the #6 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies took on the #9 ranked Golden Bears. The Golden Bears would hand the Huskies their second loss of the season, with a narrow 23-20 win.

MLB

Houston dominated Texas during the MLB regular season, winning nine of 13 matchups. Now the Rangers get another chance at the Astros when they meet in the best-of-seven A-L Championship Series with a trip to the World Series on the line. The Astros face the Rangers tonight in the series opener in Houston. Jordan Montgomery will pitch for Texas, while Justin Verlander starts for Houston.

 

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

SEATTLE (AP) – Michael Penix Jr. threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze with 1:38 remaining after another debatable fourth-down decision by Oregon, and Camden Lewis missed a 43-yard field goal attempt on the final play as No. 7 Washington held off No. 8 Oregon 36-33 on Saturday in another wild chapter to their heated rivalry.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Daniel Richardson completed 31 of 38 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns, LaJohntay Wester had 190 all-purpose yards and two scores, and Florida Atlantic scored 35 unanswered points in a 56-14 win over South Florida on Saturday. Florida Atlantic has held four of its last five opponents to 20 or less points. The fifth was Illinois, which scored 23.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – Jalen Milroe passed for two touchdowns and rushed for a third, and Alabama survived a second-half Arkansas rally in a 24-21 victory over the Razorbacks.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – Devontez “Tez” Walker snagged three of Drake Maye’s four touchdown passes and North Carolina beat Miami 41-31.
