WINNIPEG – Brady Oliveira ran for two touchdowns and 72 yards to move into second place on the CFL all-time list for rushing yards by a Canadian in the Blue Bombers’ 45-25 victory over the Edmonton Elks on Saturday.
Oliveira leads the league with 1,498 yards through 17 games. Jon Cornish holds the record with 1,813 yards in 2013 with the Calgary Stampeders.
Winnipeg (13-4) had already clinched first place in the West Division when the B.C. Lions lost to the Stampeders on Friday. The Blue Bombers finish the regular season next Friday in Calgary.
The Elks (4-14) ended their season with a fourth straight loss and have missed the playoffs for a third consecutive year.
Oliveira recorded his eighth and ninth rushing TDs of the season off a pair of three-yard runs in front of Winnipeg’s fourth consecutive sellout of 32,343 fans at IG Field.
Winnipeg receiver Rasheed Bailey had two TD catches of six and 10 yards and Greg McCrae caught a 10-yard TD pass. Linebacker Adam Bighill ran a fumble recovery 27 yards into the end zone to register the second TD of his career.

*Mark Scheifele scored at 3:53 of overtime to give the visiting Winnipeg Jets a 3-2 NHL win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Josh Morrissey and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored for the Jets. Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse scored for the Oilers, who outshot the Jets 40 to 27.
*Andrei Kuzmenko’s goal at 15:03 of the third period snapped a 3-3 tie and lifted the visiting Vancouver Canucks to a 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers tonight. Sam Reinhart scored twice for the Panthers.
*Meanwhile Cole Caufield scored 47 seconds into overtime as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the visiting Washington Capitals 3-2. Dylan Strome scored twice for the Caps.
*John Tavares scored at 4:05 of overtime as the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 tonight. Matthew Knies scored twice for the Leafs, while William Nylander added a single. Nikita Kucherov scored twice for the Lightning.
*Clayton Keller and Jason Zucker scored goals, Karel Vejmelka made 32 saves, and the Arizona Coyotes beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in their home opener today. The 3-and-2 Coyotes have won three of their first five games for the first time since the 2015-16 season when they won their first three, and they won their home opener for the first time since 2016-17.
*Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus (RAZ’-muhs) Andersson has been suspended for four games, without pay, for charging Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine during Friday’s 3-1 loss in Ohio, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced today. Andersson was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for elbowing late in the third period. Andersson will forfeit almost 95-thousand dollars.

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Zac Funk scored three goals and added two assists as the Prince George Cougars crushed the visiting Kamloops Blazers 7-1 in Western Hockey League action on Saturday.
Hudson Thornton added two goals for the Cougars (8-3-0-0), while Terik Parascak and Riley Heidt netted singles. The Cougars led 4-0 after the first period and 6-0 heading into the third.
Ashton Ferster scored at 18:19 of the third period for the Blazers (1-8-2-0), who were outshot 39-25.

*The Houston Astros can advance to the World Series with a victory tonight over the visiting Texas Rangers in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. The Astros lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. Nathan Eovaldi will start on the mound for the Rangers, while the Astros will counter with Framber Valdez.
*Zack Wheeler delivered another post-season gem with seven shutdown innings, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and J-T Realmulto homered and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 last night to take a 3-2 lead in the National League Championship Series. Philadelphia moved one win from its second straight World Series appearance. Game 6 is tomorrow in Philadelphia.

There are 11 games on the NFL schedule today, including tonight’s matchup in Philadelphia between the 5-and-1 Miami Dolphins and Eagles.
