SUNDAY SPORTS: SILVERNAGLE FALLS IN SCOTTIES 1-2 GAME

Alberta’s Chelsea Carey is going back to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts final. She defeated Saskatchewan’s Robyn Silvernagle 11-7 in the 1-2 Page Playoff game to advance. Carey last won a national women’s curling title in 2016. Silvernagle faces Ontario’s Rachel Homan in tomorrow’s semifinal with the winner taking on Carey.

Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots, denies any wrongdoing in the scandal that rocked the NFL and the Patriots this weekend. The case comes amid a crackdown on sex trafficking from Palm Beach to Orlando in which police planted cameras in massage parlours.

The 77-year old Kraft faces charges of soliciting a prostitute after he was twice videotaped in a sex act at a shopping-centre massage parlour in Florida, police said.

Kraft was not immediately arrested. Jupiter police said a warrant will be issued and his attorneys will be notified. They said details about the misdemeanour charges against the owner of the Super Bowl champion team will not be released until next week.

Hundreds of arrest warrants have been issued in recent days as a result of the six-month investigation, and more are expected. Ten spas have been closed, and several people have been taken into custody on sex trafficking charges.

Jupiter Police Chief Daniel Kerr said he was shocked to learn that Kraft, who is worth $6 billion, was paying for sex inside a shopping-centre massage parlour, the Orchids of Asia Day Spa. “We are as equally stunned as everyone else,” Kerr said.

Robin Lehner stymied a hungry Vancouver Canucks offence, leading the New York Islanders to a 4-0 victory at Rogers Arena. Lehner stopped all 36 of Vancouver’s shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season. And Sam Gagner scored the game winner as the Oilers held on for a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in Edmonton.

The Maple Leafs weren’t fazed by a three-goal deficit. Zach Hyman scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period as Toronto rallied past the Montreal Canadiens 6-3. The Leafs snapped a season-high three-game slide with the win. Montreal had its two-game win streak halted in the loss.

The Ottawa Senators have swung another trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets. They sent left-winger Ryan Dzingel (ZING’-uhl) to Columbus for forward Anthony Duclair and two second-round draft picks. Ottawa had dealt forward Matt Duchene to the Blue Jackets yesterday for two prospects, a first-round draft pick and a conditional first rounder.
